Action from Monday Night:

Sunnyside beat San Xavier 25-5 in the Junior League Softball championship game held at Mission Manor to advance to the state playoffs scheduled to begin on July 10 in Queen Creek. Tucson Mountain also qualified for the state tournament from District 5.

Sunnyside beat San Xavier 5-2 on Friday, June 23 but San Xavier forced the “if game” by beating Sunnyside 6-4 on Saturday.

Sabino Canyon scored eight runs in the bottom of the fifth to beat Oro Valley 10-7 in the Championship Bracket of 8-10 Baseball held at Arthur Pack.

Zane Moffittand Brady Mitchellhit back-to-back doubles to help pace Oro Valley to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first but Sabino Canyon came right back and tied the game up 2-2 in the bottom half of the inning thanks to four straight hits from Paden Good, Ronan Baker, Hayden Greenand Andrew Smith.

Oro Valley plated four more runs in the top of the second to take a 6-2 lead with hits coming from Moffitt and DiAngelo Alexander. Peyton Carsonrecorded a 2-RBI double in the inning. Oro Valley took a 7-2 lead in the top of the fifth on a double from Alexander and an RBI single from Regen Mazura.

As mentioned before, Sabino Canyon stormed back and scored eight runs in the bottom of the fifth thanks to hits from Green, Brock Shows, Jacob Orrand Jason Canezand a 2-RBI triple from Cas Hornfeck.

Oro Valley will face Marana in an Elimination Game tonight at 6:30 p.m. The winner will face Sabino Canyon for the championship on Wednesday night. Sabino Canyon has to lose twice.

CDO beat Oro Valley 17-3 in a 9-11 Baseball Championship Bracket held at Kreigh Park. The loss sends Oro Valley to an Elimination Game against Western tonight at 6:30 p.m. The winner of that game has to beat CDO twice starting on Wednesday night.

CDO scored 13 runs in the top of the first and four more in the second to secure the win. Emry Lopezgot the start for CDO and he limited Oro Valley to two hits in the first two innings but one was a double from Kayden Lukein the bottom of the second. Luke scored on an RBI groundout by Jesse Williams.

Julian Palmieritook the mound in the third for CDO and he limited Oro Valley two hits also with singles recorded by Ryan Madsenand Luke in the bottom of the fourth. Luke scored Madsen and Bryce Weegeknocked in Luke on an RBI single later in the inning. Austin McGheetook over for Palmieri midway through the bottom of the fourth.

CDO started out with a bang on a leadoff triple from McGhee and a 2-run shot from James Witt. Elias Holm, Lopez and Micah Ruanpicked up hits in the inning while Palmieri had an RBI triple and Chase Tackett-Piercehad a 2-RBI double.

McGhee second hit of the inning was a 2-RBI single. Witt, Holm and Tackett-Pierce also had two hits in the inning.

Witt, Lopez and Tackett-Pierce picked up singles in the second inning to help pace CDO to four more runs.

Caden Crofts, Noah Secrestand Luke also saw pitching action for Oro Valley. Luke went 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored. Jones got a hit in the bottom of the first.

Witt led CDO by going 3-3 with a 2-RBI home run. Holm also went 3-3 with a walk. Tackett-Pierce went 3-3 with a double and 3 RBI. Jake Newlinhad an RBI sacrifice fly and Dominic Calvillowas walked twice and scored twice.

Sunnyside will play Copper Hills tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Vista del Prado for the 50/70 baseball championship. Copper Hills has to win to force an “if game.” Western won the 50/70 championship from District 5.
