The District 5 Little League All-Star playoffs continued on Tuesday night with 12 games played at Kriegh Park, Arthur Pack and Mehl Park. District 12 is set to join in the action tonight at Mission Manor and the various divisional playoffs will take up most of the summer with state and regional action thrown in the mix.

District 5 will host the West Region Junior Girls Softball Tournament from July 14-19 and District 12 will host the 8-10 State Baseball Tournament from July 12-25.

Oro Valley Little League took on Tucson Mountain Tuesday night at Kriegh Park and Oro Valley came away with a 16-0 Victory in the first game of the 8-10 Baseball Tournament.

Avon Shollwho went 3-for-3 and DiAngelo Alexanderwent 3-4 to lead Oro Valley. Reagan Mazurawas a key contributor on both sides of the ball going 2-3 at the plate and picking up six strikeouts from the mound. Mazura and Sholl combined to throw a no hitter in four innings of work. Tucson Mountain pitchers picked up six strikeouts.

Mazura started the game with a single through the middle for Oro Valley. He stole second before Sholl hit a triple to bring in the first run of the game. Alexander followed up with a single to score Sholl. Peyton Carsen’ssingle put runners on first and a second and a wild pitch allowed both runners to advance. Cody Milnesingled to the left fielder to score Alexander.

Oro Valley took a three run lead into the second inning where they were able to pick up five more runs. Cole Newtonand Levi Secrestreached base and Secrest scored Newton with his ball through the right side. Sholl scored Secrest with a single to right field and he took second on the throw to the plate.

Alexander picked up his second RBI single of the game with his hit to center. Carsen followed up with another single to put runners on the corners. Milne scored Alexander on a ball to third base and he got into a rundown trying to steal second base which allowed Carsen to score while Milne made it back safely to first base.

Yadier Acunanearly picked up the first hit for Tucson Mountain, but a diving play by Alexander kept the no hitter intact. Valentin Morenoreached base and he stole second, but Mazura kept Tucson Mountain off the board.

Newton reached base to start the third inning and then stole second base. Mazura singled through the right side to pick up the RBI. He picked up his second stolen base of the night and Sholl got his third hit of the night to score Mazura. Alexander legged out a triple on a ball to the right center gap, allowing Sholl to score on the play. Alexander scored on a passed ball and Clifford Graveswas hit by a pitch before Tucson Mountain was able to record the final out.

Tucson Mountain threatened in the bottom of the third after Andres Carpenterreached and advanced to second on a pass ball but Oro Valley was able to keep them off the board once again.

Lucas Andersonwas hit by a pitch to start the fourth and a wild pitch sent him to second. Mazura followed it up with a walk. Both boys advanced on a pass ball. Secrest put the ball in play to score and Anderson. Sholl worked his way into a walk. Alexander scored Mazura on a fielder’s choice to the left side. Carsen scored Secrest on a ball to the second. Christian Sodorpicked up his first hit of the night to score Alexander and Tucson Mountain was able to stop the bleeding, but not before Oro Valley took a 16-0 lead.

Emil Martinezreached in the bottom of the fourth but Carsen was able to pick off the runner at first. Sholl took care of both batters he faced and Oro Valley picked up the no-hit shutout.

Both teams will return to play on Thursday, June 21 at Kriegh Park. Tucson Mountain will play Western at 5p.m. and Oro Valley will face Continental Ranch at 7:30 p.m.
