Tucson Conquistadores High School Football Rewind: Top Southern Arizona Performers from Week 8

O’Connor 47, Tucson 0

The Badgers (3-5 overall, 3-1 in the 6A Metro) play another non-region game this Friday but they go from playing against a struggling O’Connor team to facing the No. 1 team in the state (4A to 6A) — Chandler — at Gridley Stadium.

Cienega 46, Marana 0

CIENEGA

— QB Ryan Swogerhad a 59-yard scoring run. He also completed a 16-yard TD pass to Tristan Bushey.

— QB Daniel Montanacompleted a 5-yard TD pass to Bushey.

— DB Jahn Floreshad two interceptions.

— DB Sebastian Felixhad an interception.

— DB Tristan Prallehad an interception and returned it 100 yards for the TD.

— DB Anthony Phillipshad an interception.

— DB Rafael Moodyhad an interception.

— QB Bobby Beltzcompleted a 32-yard TD pass to Wyatt Wingstad.

— WR Anthony Galveztwo receptions for 113 yards and a TD.

— WR Angel Canohad eight catches for 86 yards and a TD. He also had a 50-yard kickoff return.

IRONWOOD RIDGE

— QB Chase Casselcompleted 10 of 14 passes for 132 yards with a TD.

— RB Brandon Barriosrushed for 233 yards on 27 carries with three TDs.

— WR Thomas Smithfinished with five receptions for 92 yards.

— RB Tory Waltersrushed for 112 yards on 15 carries a TD.

— QB Jovoni Borbonrushed for four TDs, finishing with 68 yards on 15 carries. He also returned two interceptions for touchdowns.

— CB Class McCaahad seven tackles, two for loss.

— QB Ryan Corralcompleted 5 of 12 passes for 112 yards.

— RB Carlos Alvarezrushed 25 times for 276 yards with four TDs.

— RB Varney Larsonrushed for 95 yards on seven carries with two TDs.

— RB Shaun Buttigieghad three rushes for 82 yards, including a 71-yard TD.

— RB Kollins Opokuh-Appohhad 64 yards on three carries and a TD. He also had a 15-yard TD reception.

— LB Daylin Smithhad 1.5 sacks among his six tackles.

Cholla 31, Empire 7

Cholla (2-6, 1-2 5A Sonoran) tries for its second consecutive win Friday at Flowing Wells. Empire (1-7, 0-3) looks to upset Rinco/University at home.

— RB Bijan Robinsonrushed for 263 yards on 12 carries with four TDs.He also caught two passes for 49 yards. He has 636 career points and 106 TDs to go with the other state records he holds. Saguaro’s Christian Kirkfinished his career with 626 career points and 103 career TDs.

— LB Trent Strong led the Lancers in tackles for the fourth straight week, totaling 14.

— LB Luke Reginahad two sacks among his five tackles. He has 9.5 sacks this season.

CDO

— S Ethan Seppalahad his fifth interception of the season.

— WR Austin Brookshad three catches for 26 yards and an interception.

Walden Grove 34, Pueblo 13

WALDEN GROVE

— RB Sam Martinezhad 13 carries for 97 yards and a TD.

— QB Alex Lopezhad 161 yards rushing (including a 60-yard TD run) and he completed 10 of 20 passes for 168 yards with three touchdowns.

PUEBLO

— QB Marcelino Vegahad a 40-yard TD run.

Casa Grande 38, Catalina Foothills 20

CATALINA FOOTHILLS

— QB Will Parkerrushed for 73 yards on 15 carries and passed for 148 yards with two TDs.

— LB Garrick Krautzfinished with a team-high 12 tackles.

Amphi 48, Douglas 14

AMPHI

— RB Isiah Hillrushed for 109 yards on 13 carries with two TDs and led the Panthers with eight tackles.

— RB/LB Julian Encinashad 81 yards on nine carries with two TDs and had a fumble recovery on defense.

— DE Travon Ballardhad three tackles for loss, including 1.5 sacks, and a fumble recovery.

Rio Rico 40, Palo Verde 12

Rio Rico (3-5, 1-2 4A Gila) snapped a four-game losing streak with the win. The Hawks host Pueblo on Friday. The Titans (3-5, 1-2) look to end their two-game slide at Douglas.

Sabino 34, Pusch Ridge 21

— QB A.J. Skaggscompleted 15 of 24 passes for 167 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. Skaggs, a junior in his second varsity season, passed the 3,000-yard mark for his career. He is now at 3,139 yards in 20 games in his career.

— RB Ken Blackmancarried the ball 25 times for 132 yards with a TD.

— LB Luke Thompsonhad a game-high 12 tackles.

— RB Evan Lovetthad 114 yards on 16 carries with a TD.

— WR/DB Antone Brackhad four receptions for 104 yards and a TD and also had 10 tackles.

Sahuarita 51, Catalina 6

— RB Gabriel Eliashad 58 yards on seven carries with two TDs.

— RB Brady Radovich, a freshman, had 57 yards on 13 carries with two TDs.

Safford 45, Tanque Verde 0

Tanque Verde (0-8, 0-3 3A South) looks for its first win of the season when it hosts Catalina on Friday. The Trojans (0-8, 0-3) are also in search of their first victory.

— RB Hunter Oglescored on a 25-yard run.

— QB Austin Hukillcompleted TD passes of 46 and 33 yards to Avilez. He also completed a 9-yard TD pass to Orlando Davis Jr.

— RB Ricardo Alanizscored on a 14-yard run.

— DB Steve Calvinhad a 28-yard interception return for a TD.

— DB Anthony Clarkhad a 90-yard interception return for a TD.

Benson 44, Bisbee 18

BENSON

— RB Carson Barney, a senior, had 11 rushes for 152 yards and two TDs. He also had a 48-yard kickoff return.

— RB Jace Barney, Carson’s younger brother who is a sophomore, rushed for 101 yards on 16 carries with three TDs.

Tombstone 28, Santa Rita 21

Santa Rita (3-5, 0-3 in the 2A San Pedro) travels to Bisbee (6-2, 2-1) this Friday.

Willcox 31, Miami 14

Willcox (4-4 overall, 2-1 in the 2A San Pedro) will look to win its third straight game when it hosts Tombstone on Friday.

— QB/DB Caleb Quinterohad an interception on defense and a TD run and pass.

— DB T.J. Madridhad an interception.

— WR Jose Morenohad a 50-yard kickoff return for a TD.

Duncan 34, Baboquivari 16

Baboquivari finished its season 4-4 overall, its second non-losing season in the last 14 years.

St. David 70, Valley Union 12

— QB Logan Daviscompleted 10 of 14 passes for 166 yards with five TDs and also had a rushing TD. The Tigers (5-3) qualified for the 1A state playoffs as the No. 12 seed. They will play at No. 5 Hayden on Friday at 6 p.m.
