Rio Rico beat Bisbee 15-6 Friday night at the Reid Park Annex to win the championship of the High School Summer League hosted by Kino Baseball. Rio Rico starting pitcher Raul Quijadawent the distance for the win.
Bisbee led 1-0 after David Zamudioknocked in Jose Mendezin the top of the first inning but Rio Rico plated two in the bottom half of the inning on a double-steal and an RBI from Diego Garayzar. The 2-1 lead didn’t last long with Anthony Molinadriving in two runs for Bisbee on a double in the third and then Molina scored to make it 4-2.
Rio Rico exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the third and Bisbee was unable to keep pace at that point, despite scoring again the fourth. Rio Rico added a run in the fourth inning and the fifth before finishing with two more in the sixth for the 15-6 victory.
Mendez had a 2-RBI double in the fourth for Bisbee but Quijada erased 10 of the last 11 batters he faced down the stretch. Mendez, Zamudio and Molina saw pitching action for Bisbee. Hector Navarrohad an RBI double for Rio Rico, Uriel Quinterowent 2-3 with an RBI, Gerry Alcantarhad a RBI triple, Jose Valleadded a double and 2 RBI, Garayzar went 2-2 with an RBI, Eduard Madridhad an RBI, Memo Guerrerowent 3-4 with 2 RBI and Rodriguez added a 2 RBI double.
Diego Chavezhad two hist for Bisbee, Mendez went 2-4 with 2 RBI and a double, Molina went 2-4 with 2 RBI and a double and Victor Ramirez, Zamudio, Horacio Olivarriaand Alvarez added singles for Bisbee.
