Second Annual Southern Arizona Senior Appreciation All-Star Games highly competitive

The Second Annual Southern Arizona Senior Appreciation All-Star Games at Pima’s West Gym on Saturday featuring talented seniors from high schools in the area who did not hold back, although the contests were essentially exhibitions for their family, friends and teammates.

Both games were competitive and entertaining with players boxing out for rebounds aggressively, diving for loose balls, and tussling with opponents to keep possession of those loose balls. Each game went down to the final minutes.

The teams were aligned by an East-West division with schools on the western side of Southern Arizona matched about those from the eastide.

In the girls game, Corazon Santanaof Douglas scored 17 points and Ny’Anza Brownof Sahuaro added 13 to lead the East to a 39-34 win over the West.

Santana was selected the player of the game, earning her a banner in her honor from APS Digital Print.

The East led 36-11 about five minutes into the second half before the West stormed back with an 18-0 run to cut the lead to 36-29.

Pima men’s basketball players Nikko Pentelute, Cooper Jones(Buena), Dylan Baker(Salpointe) and Wes Ball(Marana) served as head coaches of the teams.

The boys game was close throughout before the West beat the East 68-62 behind 25 points from Baboquivari’s Devin Antoneand 23 points from Ja’Kwon Jordanof Coolidge.

Antone was chosen the player of the game, and he will also have a banner in his honor produced by APS Digital Print.
