Former Canyon del Oro standout Amiee Shanksearned the D-II Rawlings Gold Glove Award from the pitching position for Fort Lewis.
According to Ft. Lewis, Shanks claimed the national award after an outstanding junior season for the Skyhawks. In her 2024 campaign, the junior recorded a career-best 4.12 ERA, 15 wins and 170 innings pitched. Shanks also stood out on defense, as she made five putouts and tallied 73 assists with four double plays. Her talent within the circle led her to a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage and a roster spot on the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference’s 2024 Gold Glove Team.
Former Sahuarita and Pima standout Ian Mejiaearned his second Southern League Pitcher of the Week for the Mississippi Braves after throwing a no-hitter.
Mejia was promoted to the Triple-A Gwinnett affiliate of the Braves. In eight starts, the 24-year-old right-hander was 4-0 with a 1.69 ERA with 42.2 IP, 17 walks and 54 strikeouts.
