There seem to have been a number of changes here that I missed out on, which I won't get into. But I've noticed that Ignore User doesn't seem to be working anymore. Has it functionality been discontinued?

It never worked like I would have liked, but at least it served to give me a head's up to material I might not care for. But it doesn't seem to do anything at all now. Now, I start reading and find myself getting increasingly annoyed, only to realize I blocked the author several years ago for the same reasons.

If Drupal forced this on Erin then there's not much that can be done, I know. And FWIW, I also miss the character count that gave me an idea of the story/chapter length. I hate to start a story only to find it will take me a couple of hours to read. Knowing a story is marked complete doesn't tell me how big it is.

Additional note: my health is going to hell in a handbasket. If I should suddenly drop out of sight and not respond to anybody, well you'll know.

Karen J.

Sat, 01 Jun 2024 04:02:09 +0000 Karen J 102543 at https://bigclosetr.us/topshelf https://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/blog-entry/102543/is-ignore-user-defunct#comments The Beekeeper and The Devil's Bountyhunter https://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/blog-entry/100904/beekeeper-and-devils-bountyhunter

Author:

Karen J. The first story is credited to Janet Stickney, who I believe most of us are familiar with. I went to the M2F Story page, but found very little posted. One of the few other stories posted was credited to Valentine Michel Smith. Now, I understand that VMS has passed away so I'm wondering how this person got permission to narrate and post the story? Is this yet another person stealing and posting other's work in an attempt to profit from them it some way?

Perhaps somebody else here knows more about this.

Sun, 19 Nov 2023 08:07:06 +0000 Karen J 100171 at https://bigclosetr.us/topshelf https://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/blog-entry/100171/m2f-story-youtube#comments First You Grow Old https://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/blog-entry/98333/first-you-grow-old

Author:

Karen J. In my case that means my attention falters. This is extracted from a reply to an author I was trying to get some updates from. The author decided to be a smartass in reply.

I've been undergoing treatment for heart failure, and my attention to BC has faltered. Thankfully my shoebox of medications, for that as well as chronic major depression is sorting things out so I am getting back to (semi) normal. Still got some major heart tests to run that might throw a monkey wrench in the works, but we'll find out when we find out.

In the meantime I'm catching up as best I can. Sorry if that doesn't suit some of you, but all I can do is all I can do.

In the last three months, I've managed to shed almost thirty lbs of watertight, mostly from my legs. Still working on it, got a ways to go.

Sun, 04 Jun 2023 03:28:32 +0000 Karen J 98333 at https://bigclosetr.us/topshelf https://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/blog-entry/98333/first-you-grow-old#comments Bait & Switch https://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/blog-entry/96844/bait-switch

Author:

Karen J. Everybody is hurting after the Covid pandemic. It's unfortunate that I just don't have the dosh to buy online due to my ongoing medical bills. I'm trying not to leave my relatives holding the bag with an estate in the red. I figure it's the least I can do.

I see story chapters posted here marked teasers for their complete works for sale online. While it's frustrating I skip them knowing I'll never be able to buy them outright. It's especially annoying as some of them are very good authors and I'd love to read new work by them. But I get it, money is tight and you gotta make a buck whereever you can.

But what really pisses me off is a new story by one of several authors that runs for multiple chapters, getting me really involved in the plot and the characters, only to have the author suddenly pop up and announce the rest of the story will only be available online by requiring the reader to purchase the story. No prior warning, just an unexpected slap in the face.

To me that is a dishonest move by the author, bordering on a bait & switch scam. The author has deliberately mislead/lied to the reader. Think what you want to about this trick, That's the way I feel. I'm not going to try and defend my belief, I refuse to get into an online war with people here on BC. Nor will I respond to PMs on the subject. I'm having my say and that's the end of it for me.

What I am doing is deleting any comments I've made on the story and unvoting any kudos I may have left. I feel I have been deceived and the author/story does not deserve any feedback from me. Am I being overly sensitive? Maybe, but that's the way the cookie crumbles.

Karen J.

Wed, 18 Jan 2023 06:56:47 +0000 Karen J 96844 at https://bigclosetr.us/topshelf https://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/blog-entry/96844/bait-switch#comments
