Perhaps the US Movement needs to get with the times but I suspect that will be difficult at the moment.

The Girl Scouts are a lot cooler
Even here in the States they've been trans + gay inclusive without anyone making too much of an issue about it; while the Boy Scouts of America has been kicking + screaming in resistance to joining us here in the 21st century. The usual sorts of loons like to howl about boycotting their Girl Scout Cookie sales because of their inclusiveness + some alleged connection to the Satanic PLANNED PARENTHOOD (They eat babies, don'tcha know?). I always make sure I buy an extra box...

The big difference
That's it right there, the Girl Scouts have been inclusive by making very little issue about it, I've searched a few times over the years and found nothing one way or the other, where with the Boy Scouts as you put it you get kicking and screaming.
For the record the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts has a global mission to give girls some control over their own fertility so at least part of the connection to PP is related to that.
As for Thin Mints, they are kinda thin and varying degrees of minty, and kinda moorish so definitely don't make me thin :)

Trump's pick for Sec of State (Rex Tellerson) pushed the Scouts to allow gays when he was the President of the BSA. I think he's still on the board. Maybe he'll get this taken care of; he seems to be a decent sort of person.

actually Trump will probably make a law about scouts of either sex requiring a birthcerticate of that gender to join. Ie open up a huge can of worms.

He's too smart to do that, his rhetoric was just that, rhetoric, to get the hillbilly vote, he is a business man after all, the last thing he wants to do is piss off the very heavily supported LGBT community, not if he has plans for a second term, it was after all such groups that made the election so close in the first place, he might not help, but he knows better than to stand in the way, I am not saying he's not a bigoted asshole, but he does have a few braincells to know that he isn't going to stop anything if he tried, and history provides examples of people in power who were trampled in attempts to hinder progress, so even if he does try, it wont last.

Is deep seated with the name. In the home of scouting there is no 'boy' prefix so there's no issue, they are simply scouts, cubs, beavers, adventures. I understand that there are several mtf members of the Girl Guides so they are obviously not that concerned of what's beneath the uniform.

I find it odd that they can be so ignorant and yet manage to get one point dead on. They said, “Gender identity isn’t related to sexual orientation.” Now if only they could figure out that gender identity isn't related to what's between the legs.

Boy Scout should be for all...
Stupid, but not uncommon. People need to grow up and yes, with growth hormones in food, who knows if it is a cause.
GS accepts AMAB girls, so I wish BS accepts AFAB boys, but it won't be for a while. People are boycotting Target because they are letting AMAB girls in women's restrooms, and vice versa, and I guess I understand those people.

Where's the downside of facilitating your child's gender-identity wishes? As long as nothing permanent is done I don't see the problem. I do differ with many on this site when it comes to giving hormones young children.

are the scouts so bad, most if not all other "western" civilizations allow trans from what i have read.
the american Boy Scouts are WAY to tied up with the far religious right wing of the church culture, used to be the alt right far, as in race mattered, but not anymore. its why i wont support them in any way now.
heck before i recalled my repressed memories and was still presenting as a male, i was the "cookie Uncle" for my nieces troop, and no issues, but i wasnt known as trans either, but based on their stance, it wouldnt have been an issue.

It's not that BSA is "bad" so to speak,
but Boy Scout troops are usually sponsored by a church, and use church facilities for meetings and such. The leadership is the issue, and they've not read the original Scout manual in a long time. I doubt much that the boys themselves care much at all.
But that's just my view of things.

Kids don't naturally know how to hate, hate and bigotry are learned traits, however they are hard to unlearn

Talk about setting a bad example for your kids about being tolerant of others that maybe a little different. The Yahoo site had some ignorant comments about a 6 year old not knowing that they are different, I commented why does a infant know they are left or right handed before they can even sit up by themselves, I have a lefty and he knew that and we knew that by with hand he held the bottle with.These parents are just wrong and children tried showing them tolerance and got overrode SAD outcome

Within the Boy Scouts hierarchy is an internal policy on "The Three G's" that will never become Boy Scouts: "Girls, Gays, and the Godless." If you're aware that this is pervasive at the highest levels of the organization, and has been since at least the Fifties, their actions make sense. Their actions are not rational, they are not humane, and certainly not in keeping with the high ideals when Scouting was started, but ... they make sense. To them, anyway.
That being said, there is a tiny light in the gloom, that perhaps might threaten their position -- a handful of states are following the US State Department passport regulations regarding gender changes to birth certificates. It used to be that a transgender person had to supply "proof of having successfully completed genital reassignment surgery" (or however they used to word it). It has been changed it to providing proof of "clinically appropriate treatment for gender transition" (as stated in California ). This need not be surgical, but means HRT and therapy from recognized medical practitioners -- and it even applies to minors!
Which means that, conceivably, a 14-year-old trans youth can have name and gender on the original birth certificate corrected!
So ... the next step, the flare that ignites the tiny light, will be when a transgender boy in California (or other enlightened state) obtains the court order granting his petition of name and gender change. A new birth certificate is made, and Paula, F, presents the birth certificate that states that he is Paul, M, to the Boy Scouts!
It would be a fascinating soap opera then; let's see the BSA dance out of that one!
Meanwhile, the Girl Scouts are shaking their heads at the silliness, and go on selling their cookies ...
