Hey everyone.
Just a reminder that I am organizing a story challenge based on the Rules of Bad Fanfic Writing that me and some of the other people on the Whateley Discord came up with. Sadly I wouldn't be able to provide any prizes with my financial situation right now, so the only real prize will probably be bragging rights. Authors involved will write the best stories they can using ten of those rules. We've had some people already register, and I wil continue to accept entrants wanting to join in the fun until Sunday December 29th at 11:59 pm EST. Here's how the challenge works:
1. Post in this thread affirming that you want to participate, or private message me and I will use a random number generator to select ten of the rules we came up with at random (a different set for each participant). I will pm those rules to the entrants and you will have to write a story using those ten rules. You can use more rules than the ten you are assigned, but you need to use at least those ten.
2. Due to not wanting BCTS in legal trouble for offering prizes for fanfics It can't be a fanfic, but it can be a parody or an original story, serious or funny, the whole point is to have fun and write the best, worst, or most campy story you can with the rules you are given. (The rules may have been a bit of fun in the Whateley Discord, but stories do not have to be Whateley related, so do whatever you like and have fun with it)
3. Entrants must register through this thread or by PM before Sunday December 29th at 11:59 pm EST.
4. I will set up an official story challenge page once all entrants are registered with the keyphrase to use when posting your stories, entrants, story deadline date, voting dates and deadlines, and other details. The challenge will be called "The Leap of Faith Story Challenge" and authors will have until February 29th to post their entries once they have registered. This should give plenty of time to those that want to write longer or chaptered stories, or who don't have a lot of time to put in.
5. I will re-roll up to three rules of your choice if you get a combination that is too difficult to work with.
We have a great group registered so far and I'd love to see some more, to really get a good collection of fun stories and get people involved in the BCTS community. Thanks for listening and I hope to hear from any of you that are up to the challenge soon.

I am assuming, though, that I can submit my story after the 29th? (perhaps sometime between Jan. 4 and 15?) Otherwise, I can't do it.
Also, perhaps the rules "assigned" to a participant can be posted? That way, it'd be more fun. lol

But as far as the deadlines, you only need to notify of intent to join by the 29th of Dec. (Which is tomorrow for us in 'Murica) the actual story doesn't have to be in until February. and many of the people that joined posted their lists in the original topic. I did.
Clarification
Let me make one thing clear. The rules of bad fanfiction were a joke, were made with tropes and/or things that we as writers have done ourselves as we were learning and improving our writing. Some, if not most, of us still do some of these on occasion, I know I do, and that's what makes it funny. If we can not laugh at ourselves we do not deserve to laugh at (or act morally superior to) anyone else. This contest is in no way supposed to make fun of others, but ourselves, and it is an exercise to help writers grow in their craft by writing within random constraints. It is not to be smug and superior, but rather to encourage others to write, challenge themselves, and to have fun with it, no matter what anyone else says. I am remembering where I came from, trying to grow as a writer, and encouraging others within this community that I love to do the same.
For those of you in the contest, or interested in it, Sephrena has offered to put up $200 in prize money for it, so there will be prizes :) Keep in mind that we don't want BCTS getting in trouble from offering prizes for fanfics, so please no actual fanfics. Parodies are okay, but no actual fanfics.
