Blog About:
For many years me and Fiona have provided an IRC server with Ellesmera.dragonaerie.de. However, since about 6 years we have seen a steady decline in people visiting. Only spam bots found it then and when. We kept the service up, even when the network split occurred and when the chat moved to discord.
Nothing much happened there for the past 3 years, so today has been the day, I have finally switched off the IRC server. Ellesmera is no more.
It has been with us for a very long time.
Happy 4th of July to our renegade friends, and Good Bye to Ellesmera IRC. See you on discord.

If No one Knows
Remember IRC but it has been so long ago and the girls are only distant memories now with a few pictures of one of them on my computer. Still surprises me the picture made it through seven different computers and survived.
Saphira, how many had any idea the IRC you were running was there? In this day and age with Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, Zoom, TicToc, and dozens of others I doubt very many know what IRC was and even fewer knew how to log on? I was there and I don't think I remember how it was done. It was a DOS link back then, dial up over the phone line, and a graphic took ten minutes or more to download.

girls who took nerd to a new level, oh how i miss those conversations and meetings, how can it be so long since i met up with either of you, i think the last was with Fiona in Zurich! Spam and open connections killed the Gaby chat i used to have which i think was hosted by Ellesmera so long ago. I did think about you when i was in the Spreewald this year, we had some good times at those Radmarathon weekends!
Keep safe and if you ever get to my neck of the woods maybe we could meet for coffee.

I ran a private IRC server
I ran a private IRC server for a long time, but the upstream provider ended up forcing me to shut it down, claiming it was a 'security risk'.
I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.
IRC
I ran IRC for a friend group for a decade (have the saved logs as well, lol, no one is safe from incriminating comments!) However, Discord was just easier and more 'fun' to use so we switched out a few years ago. I do miss it but also love the expanded capabilities that Discord gives the group.
