An EBF Novice Stakes over 5f 21y on heavy going. Seven two-year-olds debutantes take part at Windsor: five colts and two fillies. Testing going will make this interesting. Michael Bell doesn't have many early juveniles so it is a fair pointer Artair has something going for him. This bay colt is a son of Kodiac and £55,000 yearling purchase. Well drawn in stall three and positive jockey booking with Jamie Spencer riding. Blown By Wind hails from Mark Johnston's stable. They have fielded a couple of juveniles who have been fancied in the betting. Neither won but far from disgraced, giving the impression they would appreciate better ground. This son of Invincible Spirit is well drawn in stall one (if the keep to the near-side rail). This home bred is out of a decent mare who raced just three times: winning on her first and second start, taking the Sweet Solera Stakes (Group 3). She was fancied in the 1000 Guineas but was virtually pulled up and never raced

An EBF Maiden Stakes over 1m 2f 6y on good to soft going. Nine two-year-old runners. Seven with race experience. Not the most inspiring of a contest in some respects but I have my eye on one of the debutantes. Physicist is trained by Paul Cole and owned and bred by Mrs. Fitri Hay. This bay colt is a son of Galileo is out of a poor race mare, placed but never winning. The betting is the guide for this juvenile and the reason for making a wager. If 8/1 & SP has fair each-way claims but if weak in the betting best watched. 2:50 Windsor - Sir Michael Stoute has been firing in a few winners and Adamant looks to hold every chance of winning this maiden after making his debut as the second string when finishing a fourth of ten behind stablemate Elucidation. To be fair, this grey colt didn't inspire confidence on that first start and backers today will be fixing their hopes on the reasoning this son of Dalakhani was in need of the race. This breeze up purcha

An EBF Novices Stakes over 5f 10y on soft going. Originally nine two-year-olds but a couple of non-runners posted early with the testing conditions. David Evans had Deningy entered and I would watch out for this colt. A field of debutantes bar two form horses which catch the eye and set a fair challenge to those making their racecourse bow. David Evan is a canny, old stick. To be honest, I think he is as crafty as a magician because he tries his utmost to get a price on a decent winning opportunity. That was the case with Awesome Allan who was well backed if not a touch lucky when winning over course and distance just over two weeks ago. This son of Acclamation looked professional and set the pace with Full Intention, looking held in the closing stages but led on post after Richard Kingsgate basically lost the race when trying to change his hands and his mount idled to be nabbed on the line. The form of that race looks fair.

A Fillies' Maiden Stakes over 6f on good going. Quite an interesting contest. Limonata was well backed when entered to run the other week but withdrawn when the ground turned soft. This daughter of Bushranger cost 90,000GNS in the ownership of Paul Jacobs. These silks adorn the highly talented Limato. Should go well. A few others worthy of note. William Haggas' Gravity Flow is held in some regard. She cost 165,000EUR as a yearling. Lady Cecil has few two-year-olds in her string but it is intriguing to note this American daughter of Blame has been given a Stakes entry. These seemingly insignificant entries are often overlooked but a sign of confidence. Few of this trainer's juveniles win priced over 10/1. A wide draw isn't the best starting point for Granita. Andrew Balding has been in pretty dire form with his two-year-old debutantes this season. It's difficult to appreciate why, as many have run exceptionally well on their second start. Sunflower is a daughter o

An EBF Maiden Stakes over 6f on good going. A large field of fourteen colts and fillies. I won't ramble on about all and sundry. Sir Roger Moore is held in high regard by Charlie Hills but seems dogged by bad luck. Last start saw a wall of horses at Goodwood, which pretty much ruined this colt's chances. He would have gone close to winning that day and in many respects we could have been hopeful of a fair bet today. A wide draw in stall fourteen doesn't make life easy. Will it be enough to stop this son of Kodiac going well? It certainly isn't a positive but I would respect this horse if he can sit in a handy position without blowing a gasket trying to get to the front. That's the gamble. Dancing Star has the prime stall and it's good to see the Balding two-year-olds running better of late. There has been something amiss with many of their debutantes. This daughter of Aqlaam with appreciate an extra furlong and Kingsclere Stables do well with fancied juveniles on their se

An intriguing maiden. At most a four-horse race. Not really telling you much there. Sirajiah was fancied to go well on debut for William Haggas but needed to be flying to beat WhatdoIwantthatfor. I'm not sure this drop back to 5f will suit. However, with a Lowther Stakes (Group 2) and Cheveley Park Stakes (Group 1) entry has to be respected. Little Voice has been given a string of lofty entries but I can't help thinking this daughter of Scat Daddy is better on the gallops. The step up to 6f at Windsor, perhaps, didn't suit and this bay filly was put in her place by Justice Lass. Rosie Royce and Apasiona contested the same race over 5f at Sandown. The former trained by Henry Candy was fancied in the betting but had no luck in running. She coasted home and is clearly capable of much better. I'd expect a bold show. Apasiona is held in some regard by Alan McCabe although his two-year-olds have been pretty poor this season and with a few gambles going astray I have the feeli

Just a few notes. Working on a number of fronts these days and not much energy going spare. Sixteen fillies over 6f on good to firm going. Couple of talking horses here with Al Khateya and Lenience both holding entries for the Cheveley Park Stakes (Group 1). On balance very unlikely these debutantes will have the class to contend at that level but nonetheless their entries hint at ability. The former trained by Richard Hannon was purchased by Peter & Ross Doyle at the yearling sales for 350,000eur. A wide draw is far from ideal. Conversely, Lenience, trained by Martyn Meade, has a prime draw in stall one. This daughter of Oasis Dream is quite interesting simply for the fact that Meade has only given pattern entries to three juveniles this season, including Kurland [pictured]. She runs in the familiar black and white silks of Ladyswood Stud. Sefton Lodge generally go well with their debutantes so if this bay filly has a touch of class I'd expect some promise today if not hitting th

A Maiden Auction Stakes over 6f on good to soft going. Eight runners in this fairly restricted two-year-old contest weighted with regard to sales price - maximum £25,000. All colts/gelding bar one filly. Only a few pounds separate top to bottom weight. The majority lightly raced with a couple of debutantes. Run To Rio was fancied on debut but was either outpaced or inexperienced. This son of Captain Rio was the lesser fancied of two juveniles for Dods, when showing improved form over an extra furlong at Newcastle, caught on the line by the well-backed favourite. The form of that race looks fair for this level and on breeding the going should suit. Denton Hall field stablemate and debutante Dark Command. This gelding is a son of Kheleyf, purchased at the yearling sales by the trainer for 9,000GNS. Dods can do well with his debutantes and a good number are placed. This stable often go better on soft ground so it wouldn't be a surprise to see them go well. With

6:10 Wolverhampton - Quite a restricted maiden auction stakes over 5f 216y. Couple of interesting horses. Company Asset had shaped with promise on her first two starts but ran below standard when fourth at Newcastle over 6f. There was no mention of this in post race reviews but it looked to me as if the saddle slipped, which may explain such a display. There is a chance she has just regressed. The tissue price of 2/1 [Sporting Life] looks short. Would make more appeal if a price. P J McBride is a talented trainer and someone I take particular note with his two-year-olds on their second start. Squash ran well on debut at Newmarket over 6f behind Lady Macapa, White Witch & Bahaarah. This daughter of Pastoral Pursuits will be primed for this race and definitely the selection. If touching each-way prices [unlikely] I would be interested. Presently about 5/2- 11/4 on the exchanges. Definitely value at those odds and high place claims. A wide draw isn't ideal but over 6f Luke Morris sho

An EBF Maiden Stakes over 5f 10y on good to firm going. An intriguing race with a few well-touted two-year-olds. Alkhor is a good-looking son of Exceed And Excell costing 230,000GNS at the yearling sales. He was very weak in the betting when making his debut at Goodwood, when second string to Hannon's favourite, which went on to win in good style. Al Shaqab Racing will be expecting more today and this horse will take all the beating. A recent Listed race entry indicates the regard this juvenile is held. A few of those with race experience are worthy of consideration and could be interesting each way bets. If the favourite fluffs his lines you may get more than a place. Ron Harris doesn't train many talented two-year-olds but he does know how to win and connections clearly expected a bold show from Just Glamorous (NR) when making his debut at Chepstow. There was good money for this son of Arcano, who is a fair-looking juvenile. At 55,000eur he is no bargain buy and related

An EBF Novice Stakes race over 5f 10y on good to firm going. Nine two-year-olds take part: four with race experience - winners - and three unbeaten on their sole start to date. This isn't a race type I would normally consider a bet but I think there is a class horse in this field with William Haggas' Besharah. This bay filly, a daughter of Kodiac, cost 85,000gns at the yearling sales. She was backed on debut at Ascot, a race where the form has been franked on a number of occasions. Sheikh Rashid Dalmook Al Maktoum's charge weaved her way through the field that day and then outpaced a good field with ease. That was a smart performance. Haggas has been careful placing this juvenile for her second start having been entered to run in Stakes, Listed and Hilary Needler Trophy before taking this option mostly likely en-rout to Royal Ascot. The form horses set a level of ability but by all account not the stiffest class and although the likes of Richard Hannon's debutante WhatdoIwantthat

An EBF Maiden fillies Stakes over 5f 10y on good going. Ten runners: three raced, debutantes from a mix of trainers. Dream Dreamer is a good-looking daughter of first-season sire Dream Ahead out of a Listed placed and group raced mare. This February foal looks a bargain yearling buy at £35,000. Jamie Osborne always buys a good, physical specimen and this bay is held in some regard by connections. There was talk of this juvenile going to the Marygate Listed Stakes at York so this looks an realistic detour. She ran well on debut over course and distance in a fair race and then a little keen when setting the pace for a long way in a strong Ascot maiden. If available at each-way price is a decent bet. John Bridger doesn't train many two-year-olds but a capable handler when given the ammunition. Stormflower has ability but too keen to do herself justice on both starts to date. Temperamental horses can be hard work and betting on them is something you should only co

A Maiden Fillies Stakes over 5f 10y on good going. A mix of top trainers with three two-year-olds with race experience. Alaskan Phantom is trained by Daniel Kubler in the ownership of J-P Lim & Partners. This daughter of Kodiac was purchased for 30,000 at the yearling sales and she is a well-built juvenile who is likely to progress with racing. This bay filly had a prime draw on debut over course and distance but it didn't add to her chances after a tardy start losing a number of lengths. In fairness, she ran exceptional well, cutting through the field, and held by a fair juvenile in the shape of Great Page [trained by Richard Hannon]. That initial experience will count for a lot and if starting well could take advantage of this course which suits those with pace. The form of that race has been franked and although only an maiden auction - in practice this is a step up in grade - Kubler's charge is likely to improve and has each way claims.

An EBF Maiden Stakes over 5f 10y on good going. Ten two year olds take part: one gelding, fiver colts & four fillies. Two juveniles have race experience. A selection of top trainers. Last year this race was won by talented colt Justice Good, trained by David Elsworth. He won this race on his second start achieving three victories with a best performance when fourth behind The Wow Signal - beaten less than three lengths - in the Coventry Stakes (Group 2) at Royal Ascot. Good to see Paul Cole's allegiance with Mrs Fitri Hay going strong. Archimedes is a bay colt sired by Invincible Spirit out of a talented multiple-winning mare [Waveband] who won at Listed class. This bay cost 240,000 at the yearling sales when purchased by Hugo Merry Bloodstock. An EBF Maiden Stakes over 5f 10y on good going. Eight debutante two year olds take part: six colts and two fillies. A varied mix of horse trainers. Last year, this race was won by odds-on shot Magic Roundabout, trained by Richard Hannon, who proved to be a very disappointing horse thereafter. Windsor is a popular hunting ground for Richard Hannon. Fit is one of two fillies in the line up - a daughter of Kodiac. The mare didn't race until three but won on her second start, trained by Hannon Snr. This bay filly is an early foal [20th January] and racing in the familiar silks of Mrs Julie Wood. She was purchased as a foal for 12,000eur. The stable have a 23% win rate with their juveniles here over the last five years [9 from 40]. An EBF Maiden Stakes over 1m 67y on soft ground. Eleven two-year-olds take part: colts, geldings & solitary filly. Last week I mentioned one of Andrew Balding's juveniles on its second start - which disappointed. Horses win: horses lose. In general, my analysis is correct so we will see if Kingsclere Park House Stable can hit the target this time round. Rocky Rider is a son of top-class stallion Galileo out of a limited-winning mare. This bay colt was purchase by David Redvers Bloodstock for 400,000gns from Tattersall October Sales 2013 (Book 1). The mare has produced a number of exceptionally expensive offspring - no doubt being influenced by Blue Duster, who is on this youngster's page. In the familiar maroon silks of Qatar Racing Ltd, Rocky Rider was quite well backed on debut at Haydock over one mile when fourth behind Lord Ben Stack. Although beaten a good few lengths this juvenile showed promise and is sure to come on first that first start. If priced in single figures hold

An EBF Maiden Fillies Stakes over 5f 10y on good ground. Sixteen juveniles: ten raced, six debutantes and a mix of top-class trainers. By all accounts this looks a tricky event, especially with a number of the leading fancies being high drawn. It will be intriguing to see whether the majority favour the stands' rail, venture to the far rail or even split. All these variables are dependent on ground and should be considered with regard to price. War Alert was sent off even money favourite when contesting a maiden here over 6f on debut. That was a fair contest. This daughter of War Front cost 270,000gns at the Tattersall's Guineas Breeze-Up Sales 2014. Trained by David Brown, for the Quatar Bloodstock Partnership, ridden by retained jockey, Jamie Spencer. This February foal is clearly held in some regard and holds an entry for the Lowther Stakes (Group 2). She is likely to be fancied to go well here although I would have some reservation about the drop back to this minimum trip.

A Maiden Auction Fillies' Stakes over 5f 10y on good ground. Thirteen two-year-olds take part, three with race experience. The nature of this race type details form horses are often favoured, while those with a race under their belt are likely to fly, their chances further enhanced by a low draw on this turning course. David Evans has made a sparkling start with his juveniles this season. Zermintrudee may have been second string on debut but showed promise. Patience Alexander was sent off odds on favourite for that race slamming the field. Zermintrudee, a daughter of first season sire Zebedee and cheap yearling purchase at 4,000euros, was outpaced on debut but looks a progressive juvenile. It could be the case this bay filly was inexperienced, didn't enjoy the kick-back, or may even appreciate a stiffer trip. A Maiden Fillies' Stakes over 6f on good to firm ground. Olly Stevens has started his training career in style and a dab hand with his two-year-olds who have helped promote Robins Farm Stables. Hoku is a daughter of Holy Roman Emperor and a fair horse at best. A bargain buy costing just £14,000 at the yearling sales, connections expected a winning debut. If not hindered by a slow start from a wide draw, there is little doubt this early [February] foal would have started her career on a high. Finishing runner-up at Listed class on her second start at York illustrates a talented juvenile. Unfortunately, lady luck has not been on her side, struggling with a terribly slow start at Lingfield, then hampered at Nottingham a few days back when sure to have gone close. In truth, good fortune hasn't favoured this bay filly on her return to Windsor. A high draw makes life difficult and it could prove a stumbling block. A Maiden Fillies' Stakes over 5f 10y on good to firm ground. Nine two-year-olds take part, all race bar one debutante. Oriel has been a talking horse for Richard Hannon's stable and by all accounts a frustrating juvenile for those who have backed her. Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden Stakes over 5f 10y on good to soft ground. Six juveniles take part: four colts, two fillies, three horses with experience. Steventon Star will take the world of beating. This bay son of Pastoral Pursuits cost 55,000gns as a yearling and started his career at Newbury. Richard Hannon has sent a number of his better early juveniles to compete in that particularly event. Hughes gave this colt a confident ride and there is little doubt connections were expecting a win. Only David Elsworth's Justice Day stood in his way, while the pair were five lengths clear of the third who had shown form. Steventon Star was given a considerate introduction and few of today's opposition will come close to that initial promise let alone surpass it. A Fillies' Auction Maiden Stakes over 5f 10y on good to firm ground. A fascinating race. On form Hoyam comes here with what looks to be an outstanding chance. This daughter of Royal Applause was held in some regard when making her debut over course and distance. Connections must have been surprised this good-looking bay didn't prove victorious. However, inexperience was her Achilles' heel with a tardy start and running green which saw the once-race Miss Diva more streetwise and fleet footed. Good prize money for this fillies' conditions stakes over 5f 10y on good to firm ground. Columella is quite a short price after winning on debut. This daughter of Kyllachy ran in a four-runner race at Warwick, which turned out to be a match between Mrs Warren and William Haggis' £65,000 yearling purchase. In many respects she wasn't best suited by the course and for most of the race was slightly outpaced, which may have been caused by inexperience. The trainer has recently given her a listed race entry which is encouraging. The negative may be that race was a pretty moderate contest. Mrs Warren is a leggy type who didn't achieve a great deal on debut but looked to have strengthened up after some time on the sidelines. I would still have concerns Columella may be outpaced and the price is most definitely based on potential rather than cast iron form. At short odds, one to watch. Miss Diva is a fair juvenile, trained by Richard Hannon. She was outpaced by her stable mate Hai
