A HISTORY OF COURAGE
After 151 years of ministry, Broadway Church has closed. What started as a ministry to Swedish Baptist immigrants, evolved into a deeply loving community whose sense of justice infused all aspects of congregational life.
Most recently, the Broadway Church worship service on Sunday mornings served as a refuge for those who wanted to understand the relevance of the Bible in today's world. Fully acknowledging the harm done in the name of Christianity, Broadway Church seeks to reframe biblical interpretation through a lense of liberation and healing.
A LEGACY OF LOVE
In January of 2023, the congregation began the brave and difficult discernment about the future of the ministry. Following two years of a pandemic, expenses were far outpacing growth and fundraising. Our people had endured overlapping crises both individual and collective. Embodying humility, grace, and honesty, each individual identified their capacity for involvement and leadership within the congregation. After a few weeks, one thing was clear: even if we had the money to keep going, our people were burned out. A process of selling our building and finding a ministry partner followed.
Now, we are honored to share our inherited wealth with three nonprofit organizations, two congregations, and two church growth ministries. These groups have had a major impact on our community, and we know they will make good use of the funds.

STAYING CONNECTED
Our worship ministry will continue at Overland Park Christian Church (OPCC). The Worship Arts Commission of OPCC is working to integrate our worship practices and style into their Sunday morning schedule.
