제목 Thermophilic biohydrogen production with trickling biofilter
초록 Thermophilic (53±2oC) H 2 production was studied in a continuous trickling biofilter (TBR) system. A commercial support matrix called ‘Saran-Lock’ (void fraction, 0.97) was used as a packing and H 2 -producing microbial consortia obtained from a continuously stirred tank reactor operated at 55oC as inoculum. Optimal H 2 production was observed at pH 5.5, a hydraulic retention time of 16 h, an inlet glucose concentration of 14 g/L, and a recirculation flow rate of 100 mL/min. The maximal H 2 yield and volumetric H 2 production rate achieved were 1.13 ± 0.12 mol H 2 /mol glucose and 3.08 ± 0.26 L H 2 /L·d, respectively. The biogas was mainly composed of H 2 (48.0 ± 1.9%) and CO 2 (50.7 ± 2.3%), and CH 4 was not detected. The major fermentation by-products were butyric acid and acetic acid. This is the first report that a thermophilic TBR system can be used for H 2 production.
