제목 Individual Risk Analysis of Natural Gas Pipeline
초록 The individual risk can be estimated by multiplying two quantities: the failure rates of the pipeline and the consequences of the failure modes. The failure rates of pipeline are estimated by using historical data of EGIG and BG Transco, and consequences are solved by Probit equation associated with the fatality of a person from heat effect. A technique of individual risk assessment, sensitive to pipeline length, pipeline diameter, operation condition, and population exposed, is proposed so that it can be applied to risk management. The risk is estimated simply by introducing a virtual length. It is corresponding to the integrated value of fatal probability at an interesting point associated with hypothetical accidents along pipeline. The risk caused by external interference is about 75%, construction defects 10%, ground movement 10%, and unknown is about 5%. Although the corrosion problem of pipeline has been a research field of interest, it is insignificant in point of the risk.
The proposed method for risk analysis to the pipeline may be a useful tool for the management of risk during planning and building of new pipeline as well as the modification to lower the risk of buried pipeline.
