제목 Enhanced mechanical property of alginate/clay bead encapsulated Prussian blue for highly selective radioactive cesium removal
초록 Scientific and technological advances relating to the removal of radioactive contaminant are important in environmental and engineering research in around the world. Cesium is the main radioactive contaminant in water that has been present in a wide area of eastern Japan since the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant Disaster. Radioactive contaminant adsorbents require well-designed morphologies for effective interaction with radioactive species selectively and high structural stability during adsorption in an open environment. Herein, the resulting adsorbents show enhancing properties compared to alginate bead. The resulting adsorbents have a 236-fold higher distribution coefficient toward cesium than traditional Ca-alginate bead. It is found that the alginate/clay bead encapsulated Prussian blue have a removal efficiency of 99.24% for radioactive cesium, showing that the material is believed to hold great promise for the clean-up of 137Cs contaminated water around nuclear facilities and/or after a nuclear accident.
