Driven by illegal bribes, local officials have been accused of forging official Thai birth documents to grant false citizenship rights to foreigners. The discovery took place in the Pho Klang municipality, bringing a sharp focus to an underground crime ring that aims to buy fake local identities for profit.
The issue of forged documents is quickly becoming a major headache for Thai authorities. Kittipong Pongsurawet, the mayor of the Pho Klang municipality, announced the discovery of 28 new fake birth certificates. This alarming update brings the total number of fraudulent cases in his local area alone up to 45.

The Hospital Connection
To make the fake birth certificates look real, the scammers needed a believable backstory. For the latest batch of fake documents found in Nakhon Ratchasima, the records claimed the babies were born at Fort Suranaree Hospital. This is a well-known, army-run medical facility located in the Muang district.
According to the forged papers, these “births” supposedly took place between June and October of last year. Because the hospital’s name appeared so often on the fake paperwork, Mayor Kittipong reached out directly to the hospital executives. The hospital has now launched its own internal investigation. They want to figure out exactly how and why their facility’s name was dragged into this illegal scheme.
These fake documents did not come for free. The scammers relied on greedy officials who were willing to break the law for extra cash. Consequently, Pho Klang municipality officials have already filed a formal police complaint against one specific registration worker.
Mayor Kittipong claims this suspect demanded hefty bribes from a Chinese crime ring. For every fake birth document processed, the official allegedly pocketed between 10,000 and 30,000 baht. While the police are currently interrogating more witnesses to build a solid case, they have not formally charged the suspect yet.
