Thai military forces from the Pha Muang Task Force successfully seized 500,000 methamphetamine pills following a brief, intense gun battle with a drug trafficking syndicate in Chiang Rai province. The armed clash broke out during an early morning border patrol when a group of armed smugglers refused a search request and opened fire on the soldiers. No military casualties were reported, and the abandoned contraband has been handed over to local police for a full criminal investigation.
