KAMPHAENG PHET– Firefighters in Kamphaeng Phet got a huge surprise yesterday when they rushed to put out a grass fire next to a kindergarten and a temple. After controlling the flames, they spotted a body burned down to just bones.
The scene sat in thick weeds behind the kindergarten and Wat Kaew Sri Wilai . This spot lies in Moo 10, Tambon Thung Sai, Sai Thong Watthana District. Police from Sai Thong Watthana Station arrived fast. Pol Lt Damrong Subinmit, deputy investigation chief, led the team. Rescue workers from Sawang Kamphaeng Phet joined them too.
Pol Lt Damrong told reporters that firefighters from Tambon Thung Sai Municipality had just doused the fire. Then, everyone saw the remains in a ditch at the base of the burnt brush. Police roped off the area right away and summoned forensic experts. Village leaders started asking around about anyone missing.

Mr. Vallop Bunyoeung, 48, works as an admin at the kindergarten, said the fire started late yesterday afternoon. We put it out, but it flared up again. I called the fire team. That’s when we saw the burned bones. So we alerted the police and the village head. No one knows yet if it’s somebody from around here.”
Monks at the temple shared some info. A man had asked to stay there recently. He had family nearby but no home of his own. He vanished days ago. He left clothes and stuff in a monk’s quarters. They think it might be Mr. Pichai Maneeprai, 51, from house 54, Moo 15, Tambon Thung Sai.
His aunt, Mrs. Thitima Mahakanakhet, 59, showed up at the site. She feels sure it’s her nephew. He drinks a lot and has seizures. He left home almost two weeks ago. Last she heard, he called relatives for betel nut and booze at the temple. Then nothing.
Pol Lt Damrong said police aren’t jumping to conclusions yet. They won’t confirm it’s Pichai until DNA or other tests match. Plus, if he died there naturally, someone would have smelled decay by now.
The spot hugs both the temple and the school. Forensics will gather more clues first. Rescue will take the bones to Sawan Pracharak Hospital in Nakhon Sawan for cause-of-death checks.
