BANGKOK– Police report that on May 2, 2026, suspected drug traffickers abandoned 300 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine after crashing their car into a tree in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.
The accident occurred at approximately 6:22 AM on the Muang Khong-Kham Sakaesaeng road. According to local witnesses, an unidentified getaway vehicle quickly arrived at the scene, picking up the uninjured driver and fleeing before authorities could arrive. Police are now launching a massive manhunt to track down the escaping suspects and dismantle what appears to be a major drug smuggling ring.
The incident began when a silver Honda City ZX, bearing a Udon Thani license plate, lost control and slammed violently into a roadside tree in the Ban Non Thong area. The impact left the front of the vehicle destroyed, with auto parts scattered across the grass. However, when rescue workers and officers from the local Khong Police Station arrived, they found an eerily empty car.
Local villagers who witnessed the crash reported a swift and highly coordinated rescue by the suspects. Just moments after the crash, a silver Toyota Fortuner pulled up next to the wreckage. The driver of the destroyed Honda quickly jumped into the waiting Fortuner, and the suspects sped away, leaving their ruined vehicle behind in the dust.
A Massive Haul of Crystal Meth
The rush to abandon the vehicle soon made sense to the authorities. As police searched the wrecked Honda, they noticed something highly suspicious in the passenger cabin and the trunk. Officers discovered six large black plastic sacks, carefully wrapped in clear tape.
Inside these bags, authorities found a staggering 300 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as “Ice.” The drugs were meticulously packed into 300 individual one-kilogram bricks, ready for quick distribution.
Police immediately seized the illicit cargo. According to the original report by Thairath , this represents a huge financial blow to the drug cartel. A shipment of this size carries an immense street value, and it clearly shows the bold lengths to which criminals will go to move their products.
Police Colonel Ratthawit Anandilokrit, the Superintendent of Khong Police Station, is personally leading the investigation. He has deployed forensic teams to carefully examine the wrecked Honda City. Investigators are dusting for fingerprints, collecting DNA samples, and gathering any other scientific evidence that might identify the driver.
Authorities believe the smugglers were trying to use the quiet early morning hours to transport a massive load of narcotics through the province. Detectives are also reviewing security cameras along the escape route to track the silver Toyota Fortuner.
Police Colonel Ratthawit said police are on high alert as they work to close the net around the suspects. With the evidence collected at the scene, police are hopeful that this drug bust will lead to the collapse of a larger criminal organization.
