BANGKOK– A heartbreaking tragedy has shocked a small community in Kamphaeng Phet province, northern Thailand. An eight-month-old baby boy died after being left alone in a dense roadside forest for over an hour.
Local police report that the mother abandoned the infant in the woods following a heated argument with her husband. The child was brought back inside later that evening but passed away the following day.
According to reports from Thairath Newspaper , officers at the Khlong Khlung Police Station were notified of the infant’s death on the afternoon of May 29, 2026. The local sub-district headman, Mr. Ratchakon Phutong, contacted the authorities after local healthcare workers confirmed the baby had no pulse upon arriving at a nearby clinic.

Timeline of the Heartbreaking Incident
The timeline reveals a series of severe warning signs leading up to the tragic loss of life:
- May 27, 2026:The mother and father engage in a severe domestic dispute. In a fit of anger, the mother throws the eight-month-old baby into the forest alongside their house, leaving him alone in the elements for approximately one hour before bringing him back inside.
- May 28, 2026:The infant’s condition begins to deteriorate rapidly over the next 24 hours. He shows signs of physical distress, and his skin begins turning blue.
- May 29, 2026:Realizing the baby is unresponsive, the mother rushes him to the Hua Thanon Subdistrict Health Promoting Hospital. Medical staff attempt to revive the child, but he is pronounced dead upon arrival.
- Aftermath:Upon learning of her child’s death, the mother buys alcohol, gets heavily intoxicated, and causes a violent scene at the hospital before being detained by the police.

Mental Health and Substance Abuse Warnings
Local authorities and neighbors have pointed out a long history of mental instability, substance abuse, and domestic struggles within the family. Mr. Ratchakon, the sub-district chief, noted that the 26-year-old mother, identified only as Ms. Ta, suffered from ongoing psychiatric issues.
Community leaders highlighted several alarming behaviors before the incident:
- History of Child Neglect:Six months prior, the baby had to be placed temporarily with a child welfare foundation in Nakhon Sawan province because the mother was deemed unable to care for him.
- Prior Community Intervention:The family previously made local news when the 31-year-old father, Mr. Nueng, had to flee with the baby to seek shelter at a local temple because he was unemployed and the mother had abandoned them.
- Violent Outbursts:Neighbors reported that Ms. Ta had a history of substance abuse and heavy drinking. Just a week before the tragedy, she tore up the official school certificates issued for her older nine-year-old child, who is currently being raised by a welfare foundation.
When Khlong Khlung police arrived at the hospital, they encountered Ms. Ta in a highly erratic state, screaming and pacing through the halls. Investigators detained her at the police station, though initial interrogations proved difficult due to her extreme state of intoxication. The father was also brought in for questioning but remained silent during the initial police interview.
The body of the eight-month-old child has been sent to a specialized medical facility in Nakhon Sawan province for a full autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Local community members expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing the infant as a cheerful and innocent child caught in a broken environment.
