What is the Meta Ad Library and how do I search it?

The Ad Library is a place where you can search for ads that are running across Meta Products . You can use it to get information about the ads you see.

For all ads, you can search for ads that are currently active on the Meta Products .

For ads that are about issues, elections or politics, you can also search ads that are inactive (no longer running across Meta Products ). Transparency is a priority for us to help prevent interference in elections, so the Ad Library also shows you additional information about these ads, such as who funded the ad, a range of how much they spent, and the reach of the ad across multiple demographics. We store these ads in the library for 7 years.

Please note, there are certain, limited circumstances where ads may be removed from the Ad Library, such as serious

Searching the Ad Library

Viewing all active ads

You can search for an advertiser in the Ad Library to view the active ads running from any of their Pages. When viewing a Page’s active ads, media (example: photos and videos) and text associated with ads will be displayed.

You can filter ads by:

On an ad, you can:

See when the ad started running . At the top of the ad, it will give the date that the ad first appeared on Meta technologies.

See what Meta technologies the ad was shown on . The icons will appear at the top of the ad:

Messenger

Audience Network

View the ad ID and copy a link to the ad . Each ad that runs on Meta technologies has a unique ad ID, which is a part of the direct link (also known as the URL) to the ad. To save or copy the link to the ad:

menu, then click Copy Ad Link .

Paste the link in your browser to go directly to the ad.

Report the ad . To report the ad:

menu, then click Report Ad .

Follow the on-screen instructions to let us know why you’re reporting the ad.

Keep in mind, you can report active ads that you feel are about social issues, elections or politics and should have Paid for by disclaimer and don't, or for violating our other Advertising Policies . You can report an ad as political only in certain countries.

On this page, you can view things like information from the About section on the advertiser’s Page. Ads about social issue, electoral or politics will have additional information in See Ad Details .

When viewing a Page in the Ad Library, you can see additional information about the Page, like when it was created, name changes, and admin country locations. Admin country locations are only applicable for pages with high fan count or if they have run an issue, electoral or political ad in certain countries.

Country.

Impressions. You can choose to see what ads have received impressions (when an ad has been viewed) over a particular time period.

Platforms. You can choose to see what ads were shown on either Facebook, Instagram, Messenger or through Meta’s Audience Network. Learn more about our Audience Network in our Business Help Center.

Keyword search.

Viewing ads about social issues, elections or politics

For issue, electoral or political ads, you can search by Page name or keyword, and then filter by:

For these ads, we return results of both active and inactive ads for 7 years from the date it was first viewed. These ads also include a disclaimer, so you can understand who is paying for the ads. However, ads that were determined to be political after they ran will not have a disclaimer.

When you click See Ad Details for an issue, electoral or political ad in the Ad Library, you'll see specific information about the ad. This information may include some of the following:

Active or inactive : You can see when an ad started running and whether or not it's currently running.

Disapproved notice : If an ad in the Ad Library was active but then became disapproved, it will show as “disapproved” in the Ad Library.

Impressions : You can see a range for the number of impressions the ad received (ex: 1K-2K), not the exact number.

Amount spent : You can see a range for the amount spent on the ad (ex: $1K-$1.5K), not the exact amount.

Demographic information (age and gender) : You can see the percent of people by age and gender who had an impression on the ad.

Location : You can see information about the location(s) where the ad was shown.

If the ad was shown on Facebook or Instagram.

For advertisers who have run ads about social issues, elections or politics, in addition to seeing context about a Page, such as when it was created, name changes, or admin country locations, you will also see information from the Ad Library Report ( http://www.facebook.com/ads/library/report ) such as lifetime and last week spend on ads about social issues, elections or politics.

Country.

Page Name.

Status (Active and/or Inactive).

Disclaimer. Issue, electoral or political ads on Facebook and Instagram may have a disclaimer, which includes information about who paid for the ad. Learn more about disclaimers for ads about social issues, elections or politics.

You can search for an advertiser in the Ad Library to view the active ads running from any of their Pages. You can also search by city or state. When viewing active ads, media (example: photos and videos) and text associated with ads will be displayed.

Viewing the Meta Ad Library Report

In addition to searching the Ad Library, in some countries you can also review a weekly report about issue, electoral or political ads in a given country, for a given time period. You can see things like how much advertisers are spending and popular search terms.

The online version of this report typically lists the highest spending advertisers. To see the complete list of advertisers, you can download the full report at http://www.facebook.com/ads/library/report .

The Ad Library Report includes:

The estimated total amount spent by each advertiser from the start of the Library or the first ad creation date (whichever came later) until the end of the selected week.

The total number of ads this advertiser has in the Library.

The estimated total amount spent by each advertiser for the selected week.

The total number of ads the advertiser has in the Library during the selected week.

Weekly top search terms.

Top advertiser spend in a region of a country.

When reviewing the Ad Library Report, you can sort the table's results in ascending or descending order:

Page name.

Disclaimer name.

Number of ads created.

Total amount spent.

You can also search the Page name or disclaimer fields with a keyword or phrase.

Spending Tracker and Embeddable Widgets

The Spending Tracker compares how much advertisers or campaigns spend on ads about social issues, elections or politics. Results are grouped by party affiliation, incumbency information and campaign ticket (example: Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates running together).

After you have created a search in the Ad Library Report and made a selection, you can share political ad spend information by embedding a widget to your site or article. The widget lets you share a snapshot of ad spend at a given time, or one that automatically updates daily with current results. To do this:

Click Create Widget on the bottom right of the Spending Tracker.

Customize the widget by selecting if you’d like to share information on Presidential candidates or Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates .

Select a Fixed date range or a Dynamic date range .

Choose whether you want the widget to automatically update or be static . For static widgets, you can use the custom date range that has already been selected or pick one of the following presets (7/30/90 days). For automatically updating widgets and custom tracker widgets, you can pick from the following presets (7/30/90 days).

Copy the code to embed the customized widget to your site.
