Facebook Dating
is different from your Facebook profile in several ways:
Although you access Dating from your Facebook account, your Dating profile is different from your Facebook profile. Your current Facebook friends and anyone outside of Dating can't see your Dating profile. For example, your Dating activities don't appear on your Facebook Feed.
All conversations you have in Dating are separate from your conversations on Facebook Messenger.
You can delete your Dating profile without deleting your Facebook account. However, deleting your Facebook account also deletes your Dating profile.
Note that if you become friends on Facebook with someone you've matched with, your matches or suggested matches in Dating will still be able to see your Dating profile.

Access Dating from your current Facebook account on the Android or iPhone apps.
Facebook Dating suggests matches for you based on your preferences and information from your Dating profile. Your Dating preferences for potential matches can include height, age and education.
We also use the things you and others do and provide on Facebook, for example:
Information you added to your Facebook or Dating profile, like your hometown or the schools you attended.
Interests like Facebook Groups and Events that you have in common. This can include past and future events that you expressed interest in or attended.
Note that we may use other signals from Facebook to help provide you more relevant matches.
Keep in mind that if you have Suggest friends of friends
turned on, you may see friends of your Facebook friends. If you turn off Suggest friends of friends
, your suggested matches don’t include people who are friends with your Facebook friends.
You can narrow your suggested matches by turning on This is a strong preference

You'll need to turn on Location Services
for your Facebook account when creating your Facebook Dating profile or if asked by Facebook. Dating uses Location Services to suggest matches based on your distance preferences
, so you won't be able to see or match with people unless Location Services can confirm your Primary Dating location.
Your Primary Dating location is the area where you initially signed up for Facebook Dating, unless you choose to update it. If you move locations, your Primary Dating location does not update automatically to your new area, and you could get a location mismatch
message.

Meeting Online
Share Carefully
Keep your identifying information private. Don’t include your last name, email, home address, phone number, work address, financial information or any other identifying information in your Dating profile or chat messages.
Report
and block
anyone who asks you to share this kind of personal information, information that could compromise your privacy, safety or security, or anyone who you feel is suspicious. We won't let the person know that you reported them.
Watch Out for Scams
Scammers may try to use fake or compromised accounts to trick you into giving them money or personal information. If you've received a message that you believe is a scam, report the person to Facebook
instead of replying.
Common warning signs include when a scammer:
Wants to leave Facebook Dating immediately and use personal email or a messaging app to chat.
Claims to be in love very quickly to persuade you to talk with them.
Plans to visit, but claims that something bad happened and cancels plans.
Asks you to wire money or send gifts or gift cards.
Scammers might ask for money to cover travel, medical emergencies, hotel bills, hospital bills or visas. Remember that any online love interest that asks for money is likely a scammer. Learn more about other common scams

Never respond to requests to send money, wire transfer money or make a donation. Stop communicating with anyone who attempts to pressure or trick you into revealing financial information.

People may misrepresent themselves and their intentions in their Facebook Dating profile, including their gender or sexual orientation. This could lead to harassment or harm if you decide to meet them in person.
Keep your communications within Facebook Dating, do your research and really get to know the other person before you meet for the first time.

Some suggestions to help you stay safe when meeting your date in person:
Tell someone about your plans
: Always tell a trusted friend or family member about your plans before going out, including the exact location of your date and when you expect to be back home. Consider making your first meeting a group or double date and bring a friend along.
Share your location
: Share your GPS location with a trusted friend or family member while you're out.
Meet and stay in public
: When meeting someone for the first time, meet in a public place where other people are around.
Familiarize yourself with the meeting spot
: If possible, check out the meeting location ahead of time.
Monitor any alcohol or substance consumption
: Alcohol and other substances can affect behavior, so be aware of what you and others consume and always keep your glass in hand or in sight.
Make sure your mobile phone is charged
: Keep your mobile phone fully charged and with you in case of an emergency.
Arrange your own transportation
: Always arrange your own transportation to and from your date to make sure that you have control over when you arrive and leave. Never agree to be picked up at your home.
Share personal information carefully
: Never feel obligated to reveal identifying information like your home address or the location where you work.

If you or someone you know is the victim of a crime or is in immediate danger, contact your local law enforcement for help.
If you ever feel pressured or uncomfortable, you can:
End the date and arrange your own transportation home.

To help keep our community safe, we may ask you to verify your Dating profile. If you need to verify your profile, a prompt shows when you open Dating. You can't use Dating until you verify your profile.
To confirm your Dating profile, follow the on screen instructions. After you submit your video selfie, you can close Dating. Your video selfie must match a photo on your profile.

Keep in mind that your gender identity and gender identity preferences for matches aren't visible on your Dating profile.
Occasionally, you may want to update your Dating profile. You can't change some things, like your name and age, in Dating. Changes you make to your Dating profile don't appear on your main Facebook profile.

You can delete your Facebook Dating profile without deleting your Facebook account. However, deleting your Facebook account will also delete your Dating profile.

If you delete your Dating profile, you lose your profile, including your Dating answers, likes, matches and conversations. This information is not recoverable. Even if you delete your profile, your matches can still see conversations they had with you.
You must wait 7 days if you decide to make a new profile. If you try to create a profile before then, you may see this message:

You can't create a new Dating profile at this time because you've deleted your account in the last 7 days. You can try again later.
You may not see this message on older versions of Facebook.

Conversations you have in Dating will appear in the Matches tab within Dating. These conversations won't show up in Facebook Messenger.

You can add up to nine of your Facebook friends or Instagram followers as secret crushes in Dating. When you add someone in Secret Crush, they'll be notified that an anonymous person has a crush on them.
You will only match and your name will only be revealed if you both added each other as crushes. Unless there's a match, the secret crush won't know that you entered their name.

Dating suggests matches based on your distance preferences. If we find that your Dating Location doesn’t match your Primary Location

. You can continue to message your existing matches, but can't make new matches until your Dating and Primary Locations match.
If you recently traveled to a new location, your Primary Location should update automatically as you use Facebook. It may take some time for your Primary Location to update.
If you can’t update your Dating location to match your Primary Location, or don't feel comfortable turning on location services, you can delete your Dating profile
