The Avatar autogenerate feature (“AutoGen”) enables us (Meta Platforms, Inc., “we”, “us” or “our”) to quickly recommend avatars to you that more closely match your facial appearance using a video recording of yourself (“Selfie”) that you submit. This Avatar AutoGen Privacy Notice applies to our processing of your information in connection with generating recommended avatars via AutoGen. It does not apply to the processing of information used to power augmented reality features, such as filters, masks or other interactive digital experiences, that you may use with your final avatar after it is generated. The information processed in connection with those augmented reality features is subject to the Face and Hand Effects Privacy Notice
. Depending on your location, you may need to turn on those augmented reality features before you are able to access them.
Information we use to provide the AutoGen feature
In order to recommend avatars inspired by your appearance, our software analyzes your Selfie to estimate the location of parts of your face, like your eyes, nose and mouth, and specific points on the contours of those parts of your face (collectively, “estimated facial points”). Our software also analyzes your Selfie to detect the shape and color pigment of certain areas of your face (collectively, “predicted facial attributes”). We then use the estimated facial points and predicted facial attributes together to suggest avatars that look more like you (“recommended avatars”). If you choose to, you can then use the avatar editor to customize the recommended avatars before selecting your final avatar. None of this information is used to identify you.
We will store your final avatar so that you can use it for interactive digital experiences across our services. Once your final avatar has been created, you can delete it at any time by clicking the trashcan icon in your Avatar Editor settings. Your final avatar will also be deleted if you delete your account.
Your Selfie, estimated facial points and predicted facial attributes will be used for recommending avatars inspired by you and, together with your recommended avatars, will be deleted within 14 days.
Other information we use
Consistent with our Privacy Policy
, we also collect other information in connection with your use of the avatar editing tools (e.g., whether you used one of our recommended hairstyles or used our editing tools to choose another hairstyle for your final avatar). We use this other information–which does not include your Selfie, estimated facial points, predicted facial attributes, recommended avatars, or final avatar–to troubleshoot, diagnose and fix problems that you may have in using the feature, as described in our Privacy Policy
. This other information will be disassociated from your account and will be deleted when we no longer need it to provide or improve the avatar service.
We do not share this information
We do not share any of the information described in this notice, including your Selfie or any of the other information processed to generate your recommended avatars, with third parties.
