A supergroup composed of music royalty, the Allman Betts Band will perform at Charlotte’s Knight Theater on May 20. Led by Devon Allman ( son of the late Gregg Allman) and Duane Betts (son of the late Dickey Betts) of the Allman Brothers, the two childhood friends are continuing the legacy of timeless, sweet, and soulful Southern rock.

With two critically acclaimed studio albums ( Down To The River and Bless Your Heart ), hundreds of live shows, and performances at their annual Allman Betts Family Revival, the Allman Betts Band have established their own legacy of music and brotherhood. 

Allman and Betts first met in 1989, when their fathers brought them on tour for the Allman Brothers 20th anniversary shows, and they formed an immediate friendship. Years later, in 2017, after a performance at the Fillmore in San Francisco– celebrating what would have been the 70th birthday of Gregg Allman– the Allman Betts Band was born. T he band released Down to the River,  t heir debut studio album , recorded at the historic Muscle Shoals Sound Studios, in 2019. Embarking on a world tour following the release– also celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Allman Brothers Band– their musical chemistry grew stronger for their sophomore album, Bless Your Heart, released in 2020. 

Joined by a stellar cast of musicians featuring guitarist Johnny Stachela, bassist Justin Corgan, keyboardist John Ginty, percussionist/saxophonist David Gomez, and drummers John Lum and Alex Orbison, the show will celebrate the Allman-Betts rich musical lineage and the bands own soundtrack of the new American South. 

“We’re keeping the tradition alive,” Betts said. “Our albums are the foundation of what we do, but we’re also happy to include a couple tips-of-the-hat to my dad and Gregg Allman during our sets. 

The Allman Betts Band will perform at Knight Theater in Charlotte on May 20 , joined by Chicago blues guitarist and singer-songwriter, J.D. Simo, as an opening act.
