3 Simple Last Minute Halloween Ideas

I’m a fly by your seats kinda girl. By that I mean that I’m the mom that makes the Halloween costume the night before Halloween.  Today we picked up a very basic angel costume from our church to borrow for Halloween and let me tell ya, my 8 year old was over the moon – because I’ve always set the bar so low .  She was probably just so happy that she has a costume two days before Halloween that she didn’t know what to do with herself.  Since I always wait until the last minute, things need to be simple. However just because things are done on the fly doesn’t mean that they can’t be fun and still help you have a great celebration.  Case in point:

The Flower Pot Costume

A few years ago I had a cute 3 year old that needed a costume. As normal it was the day before Halloween and I didn’t want to spend a ton so I went to The Dollar Tree.  A large bucket, some tape, flowers, and a jump rope later and I had the perfect Flower Pot Girl Costume.flowerpotcostume2I cut the bottom out of the bucket, sanded the edges so they wouldn’t be sharp, taped the flowers around the edge and taped the jump ropes in place to serve as suspenders and this was born bloomed.flowerpotgirlcostumeWasn’t she just the cutest?  It’s just a simple costume that is so cute. Plus it’s easy to slip on and off and light weight. Flower Pot Costume for Handmade Halloween @ClumsyCrafterAnd it fit the next year too.  If you need more detailed instructions to make this costume you can find the DIY Flower Pot Costume Instructions here.  This idea went viral on Pinterest and my Mother-in-Law’s co-workers thought she had the first picture of my daughter as her work screen saver just because she had also seen it on Pinterest, like they had. They didn’t realize that my mother-in-law had no clue what Pinterest was and that it was in fact her granddaughter in the picture.

Pumpkin Pretzel Wands

Bippity-Boppity-Boo. marshmallow pumpkins and pretzelsSometimes to apologize for forgetting to carve pumpkins (because I forgot to buy them again), we will bake or make a themed treat.  One day while walking through a store I noticed that these mallowcreme pumpkins would fit perfectly on the top of a pretzel rod (that’s what happens when you’re trying to be healthy with the pretzel rods but the mallowcreme pumpkins just jump in your shopping cart). Add a little melted chocolate to hold it all together and sprinkles to up the cute factor and these are the perfect little wands for Halloween parties or to pack in kids lunches. Halloween Party Recipe - Pumpkin Pretzel WandsCute and fun. Plus it won’t take you very long to make them.

Marzipan Pumpkin Cupcake Toppers

If you can roll playdoh into a ball then you can makes these marzipan pumpkin cupcake toppers.
