It’s hard to believe that summer is coming to the end. One of the things that I think of every year at this time is that you only get 18 summers with your kids before they’re moving on to college. It’s easy to get into the huge, extremely detailed summer bucket lists but I knew that the only way to truly wrap up another great summer is by spending one last night cuddled up on the couch, simply enjoying time together. Of course if you’re going to watch TV, you have to have great treats right? Yes! That’s why we decided to make a truly amazing DIY popcorn bar.

The great news is that you can make this too. There is a secret ingredient that you don’t want to miss so keep reading to find out what it is. Whether you just want sweet buttery popcorn topped with all different kinds of fun candies or you want to add in some crazy items, this popcorn bar is a great idea that you’ll want to make.

In our house, we love movie nights. It’s an easy way to gather busy kids and spend time together, that is… if you can actually hear the movie over the stories and jokes. It’s the final weekend before school starts back and another popcorn party bar is in order as we all cuddle up on the couch (dogs included).

In order to make a really great popcorn bar, select a wide variety of toppings. Some people like gummy things, others like super sweet and then there’s the people who like it a little extra salty. Or you can go really crazy and offer daring options such as chile candy or seaweed candy.

We picked a wide assortment of options and set it all out on the counter for everyone to spoon the topping that they want onto the top after we added the secret ingredient.

So whats the secret ingredient to the perfect DIY Popcorn Bar?

Without a doubt, you need melted white chocolate. Yes! You don’t want to miss out on this step. Melted white chocolate acts like the yummiest edible glue known to man and bonds the candies and other treats to the top of the popcorn.

There’s nothing like adding melted white chocolate to the top of buttery popcorn.

For our movie night we put a little popcorn into each cup, drizzled melted white chocolate on top and then let everyone choose their own toppings. Which one do you think was mine?

My popcorn mix was : chocolate chips, peanut butter chips and small pieces of pretzels. It was so mouthwatering, I wish I had some more. The best news is that it doesn’t take many treats sprinkled on top to make it sweet so it’s guilt-free snack.

My 9 year old was the truly spirited one at the popcorn bar and she went crazy with these adorable sprinkles that we found when we raced through Walmart to buy the popcorn for our popcorn bar.

There you go… you can’t go wrong with popcorn and a movie night.
