Laundry Room Makeover – Phase 1

Slowly but surely since we moved into this house we’ve been changing it to fit our taste and style (or lack thereof). One room in this house has really been on my nerves but I’m happy to say that I have finally started to tackle the laundry room, which is also our back entry to the house. So today let me walk you through the first phase of my laundry room makeover and show you some possible future plans.
When we moved into his house three years ago everything was the same shade of yellowed white. It wasn’t a bright crisp white, no…. The previous owners had matched the old original 70’s paint in the house and repainted it all the same exact color to prepare the house to sell. The crown molding, the trim, the walls, and the cabinets were all the same shade of old yellowed white. I only wish I was joking.
Don’t get me wrong, we were blessed to find an amazing house on a dreamy street. But when you look at the same old tired dirty looking paint color covering every single surface of your house, it makes you go a little crazier than you were to begin with.
I did take a before picture to show you how bland our laundry room was but I deleted it from the camera on accident (because the paint color had made me crazy). For the past three years every day when I enter or leave my house I had to walk through this boring room that left me uninspired.
But you know what I find inspiring? Stripes.
I’ve always wanted to paint a wall in wide horizontal stripes.
So I did. 
Then I painted our also yellow white backdoor to a vibrant peacock blue color that I love.
This side looks great! (except for that yellow light switch we have to change out)
In fact except for some artwork this side of the laundry room is done.
But the other side isn’t. Prepare yourself. 
Do you see the yellowed white cabinets with brass handles? And if you look closely you’ll notice the door frame is the same color. It’s not good. Add in the bright blue laundry basket and the dirty brown recessed area for the water connections and this might just qualify as a hot mess.
Here’s where the fun part came in. We (kids included) took a little trip to Floor & Decor
and it was fabulous. It’s like a candy store for the people that watch HGTV on repeat.
I walked almost every single aisle and paid one of my kids to follow behind me to clean up the drool. (You know that’s a joke because kids don’t clean) 
All three of these pictures are tile. Yes. It’s faux wood tile, glass tile and penny tile. I have a mad love for faux wood tile and penny tile.
But none of those would work on the floor of the laundry room (even though I wish the faux wood one would!).
Eventually we are going to replace the tile in the laundry room but it will also extend to our kitchen, guest bath and dining area so it needs to be very neutral and light.
So these are the two that I was left debating between; 
They’re both trendy and neutral. Yet if it came down to it I would go with the tile on the right because it had veins of gray and tan running through it and the larger size would mean less grout cleaning on my hands and knees.
Then while I was walking around another tile caught my eye; 
Hello Gorgeous. Then on the other side I heard a lovely gray tile call to me…. 
When you see a tile that gorgeous, you have to act.
So the staff from Floor & Decor helped me lay out a possible wall tile scenario on their imagination station, where you can try out tile combinations and patterns. 
Here’s a secret – I think a tiled wall like this would look great behind the washer and dryer in my laundry room. But The Moroccan shaped tile is more expensive and the glass subway tile would be a great way to make it really affordable for a big wall.
I loved how this looked. But then their staff stepped in and suggested something else. 
That’s it, I was sold on it. Here’s the kicker – they didn’t even know that the other wall in my laundry room had gray and white stripes that would coordinate perfectly.
I know sometimes it’s hard to picture.
So I played around with photoshop and hopefully this will give you a better idea for what I want to do in that room. 
My ultimate laundry room makeover would be a new tile floor using Georgette Light Porcelain tile
and backsplash using Arabesque Fluer Gray Glass Mosaic tiles
on top with glass subway tiles behind the machines for cost effectiveness. Then I would add a long shelf on that wall to hide the ugly water hookups for the washing machine and provide open storage since my kids can’t reach the laundry detergent in the cabinet.
Add to that a new clothes hamper and a framed copy of Wicked Chickens Lay Deviled Eggs free printable
.
Of course I’d also repaint the cabinets and trim a slight off white color to tie it all together.
I love that and wish it was done already. Sigh. Maybe when I get done with the dishes and cleaning the house…. if I ever do. August 28th, 29th and 30th they have family friendly activities and giveaways to celebrate the new store opening at 3665 Highway
6 in the Market at First Colony shopping center.

Gorgeous! So fun! I must say the stripes are perfect to a T! And the PEACOCK BLUE DOOR. So dreamy. I WANT ONE. I WANT ONE. I am showing this to Mr. Woo like NOW. . .and demanding that he agree to a life with such loveliness that I am quite sure that door adds.
