With a warm resonant tone, an innovative approach and dynamic delivery, the three-time Grammy-nominee infuses traditional jazz elements with modern flair. Her powerful alto sax solos and magnetic stage presence captivate audiences and transport them on a unique musical journey from smooth ballads to upbeat grooves.

At the Hop, Benjamin performs works from her latest project Phoenix , a deeply personal 12-track album performed by her septet. Phoenix featured many guests including Dianne Reeves, Georgia Ann Muldrow, Patrice Rushen, Wayne Shorter, Wallace Roney, Sonia Sanchez and Angela Davis. The album, inspired by a catastrophic car accident she survived in 2021 as well as the global issues of racism, the pandemic and inequality, led to three Grammy nominations and universal praise.

Lakecia Benjamin is a three-time Grammy-nominated New York-based saxophonist, arranger, composer and educator. One of the most sought-after and revered saxophonists in the world, Lakecia was voted 2020 Downbeat Critics Poll Rising Star Alto Saxophonist and Up and Coming Artist of the Year by the Jazz Journalists Association.  Known for her charisma and dynamism as a player, as a composer she has an inimitable skill of fusing traditional conceptions of jazz, hiphop and soul.
