Patricia T. Glowa, MD, an assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology, of pediatrics, and of community and family medicine, has received the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award.
Recipients are faculty members and graduating students who demonstrate both clinical excellence and outstanding compassion in the delivery of care and who show respect for patients, their families, and healthcare colleagues.
“The Tow Humanism Award has always seemed to me a mark of great respect for the finest traditions of medicine in service of humanity,” Glowa says. “As such, I am thrilled and honored to have been selected by my colleagues to receive this award. I am particularly happy to be elected on the verge of my semi-retirement from medicine. Medicine has given me the most gratifying way to serve our patients and community.”
A family physician for more than 40 years, Glowa has been forming lasting relationships with her patients and those in the Upper Valley community through a longtime ongoing commitment to caring for vulnerable women and children—serving on the WISE Board of directors, volunteering at Good Neighbor Health Clinic, and membership on the Domestic and Sexual Violence Task Force at Dartmouth-Hitchcock. She is an elected member of Geisel’s chapter of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, and in 2017 and 2019, was named “One of New Hampshire’s Top Doctors” in New Hampshire Magazine.
Her husband, Donald Kollisch, MD, an associate professor of medicine and of community and family medicine at Geisel, received the Tow Award in 2003.
Glowa will formally accept the Tow award during Geisel School of Medicine’s student and faculty awards ceremony, Friday, May 31.
