Position Purpose
Reporting to the Undergraduate Engineering Program Director, the Undergraduate Engineering Program Coordinator serves as a primary point of contact for students, coordinates academic enrichment programs, manages student events, assists with student record keeping, and recruits prospective students.

Would you like to collaborate with a wide array of campus stakeholders, including students, faculty, and staff?
The Undergraduate Program Coordinator, reporting to the Undergraduate Engineering Program Director, serves as the primary point of contact for students interested in undergraduate engineering. While valuable, no experience in the world of engineering is necessary to be successful in this position. The role involves organizing and executing student events, such as orientations, dinners, and advising events; as well as program coordination of various initiatives, including the First Year Research in Engineering Experience , Dartmouth Emerging Engineers , and International Engineering Exchange programs.
Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp
Bachelors plus 3-5 years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least three years’ experience in event planning, student support, academic advising or similar field.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with students, staff, faculty, administrators, and a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills with ability to adapt to audiences (e.g. prospective and current students, faculty, vendors).
  • Judgment in managing sensitive and confidential issues.
  • Ability to articulate ideas clearly and to disseminate information relevant to the program both internally and externally.
  • Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse population.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in higher education in an administrative professional or student support role.
  • Excellent technology skills and fluency in computer applications. Experience with MS Office, Google docs/forms, and relational databases, preferably Ellucian Banner and Degreeworks.

Key Accountabilities
Description
Coordinates co-curricular academic enrichment programs (40%)
  • Coordinates all aspects of undergraduate academic enrichment programs including First Year Research, Dartmouth Emerging Engineers, and International Engineering Exchange Programs, ensuring collaboration with students, faculty and other campus partners.
  • Facilitates engineering retention events for students such as dinners, outings, and group advising sessions.
  • Oversees and continuously improves new student orientation and community building activities for Partner School Dual Degree program students and liaises with campus partners to provide initial and ongoing support to this cohort.
  • Assists with other community building events, such as the Thayer Open House.

  • Assists with official recordkeeping/registrarial functions for both AB and BE students including course enrollment, major/minor approvals, course permission overrides and reporting.
  • Assists with AB, Dual Degree and BE degree requirement tracking and BE program plan management.

Recruits new students to engineering (20%)
  • Coordinates volunteers, communicates with prospective students/families, and promotes undergraduate information sessions and tours of Thayer facilities.
  • Identifies opportunities for “internal marketing” of the Engineering major and undergraduate courses at Thayer and works with others to implement the opportunities.
  • Organizes recruitment events for prospective Dual Degree students.
  • Responds to inquiries and questions from prospective AB, Dual Degree and BE students.
