Registration has opened for the fourth Seychelles Nature Trail, scheduled for May 22, 2027, offering runners a demanding 22-kilometer adventure across the tropical landscapes of Mahé.
With more than 1,210 meters of elevation gain, the event combines endurance sports, nature exploration, and local culture. It also reflects Seychelles’ efforts to diversify its tourism industry beyond traditional luxury beach holidays, attracting active travelers and outdoor enthusiasts.
The race begins at Constance Ephelia Resort and finishes at Grand Anse Mahé playing field. Along the way, participants will experience Cap Ternay, Anse Major, Mare aux Cochons, Casse Dent, and Tomassin, passing through coastal scenery and challenging forest trails.
Sports Tourism Meets Community Tourism
Beyond the competition, a Family Fun Day at Grand Anse will celebrate Creole culture and provide opportunities for local businesses to participate.
Vesna Rakic, Chief Executive Officer of the Seychelles Tourism Board, emphasized the event’s wider tourism significance.
“The Seychelles Nature Trail supports our efforts to diversify Seychelles’ tourism offering and attract visitors seeking distinctive experiences,” she said, highlighting community participation and the protection of natural and cultural heritage.
For Seychelles, events such as the Nature Trail offer an opportunity to attract visitors interested in outdoor experiences while extending tourism benefits beyond the country’s established beach resorts. Their longer-term impact will depend on international participation, local economic benefits, and responsible management of sensitive natural environments.
