The "Fukuoka Hydrogen Energy Strategy Conference (Hy-Life Project)" started in 2004 has directly and indirectly supported these movements.
More than 720 companies, universities, and support organizations have gathered around Fukuoka Prefecture and Kyushu University, and have been promoting a number of projects centered on three social demonstrations.
The first social demonstration was Fukuoka Hydrogen Town, the world's largest hydrogen-using city, where 150 1-kiwatt-class household fuel cells are installed in detached houses in new residential areas.
