Taliban claims victory over last pocket of resistance in northern Afghanistan, cementing control of country
Panjshir province, long home to anti-Taliban sentiment, was the final sliver of territory not under Taliban control. Guerrillas had clashed with the Taliban for an extended period of time in the mountainous region. Resistance leaders Ahmad Massoud and Amrullah Saleh are safe, a spokesman said.
