Cynthia Kadohata is the author of the Newbery Medal–winning book Kira-Kira , the National Book Award winner The Thing About Luck , Cracker! , Outside Beauty , A Million Shades of Gray , and Half a World Away.
During World War II, Cynthia Kadohata’s dad was imprisoned in Arizona in a Japanese internment camp. His experiences inspired the award-winning author to write Weedflower . In an interview with Children's Bookshelf she said, “I'd always wanted to write an [internment] 'camp' book. It became more important to me as my father grew older.”
In this live edition of Meet the Author , author Kadohata talks about Kira Kira and her latest novel A Place to Belong . She answers questions posed by Rocky Run Middle School students (FCPS) via Skype.
