First Grade

First grade builds on students’ natural curiosity as they grow as readers, writers, mathematicians, and problem solvers. Learning is active and engaging, helping students strengthen skills while developing independence and a love of learning.

Language ArtsStudents strengthen reading accuracy and fluency, expand vocabulary, and build comprehension skills. Writing focuses on sentences, narratives, and informational texts.

MathematicsStudents develop fluency with addition and subtraction, explore place value, measurement, time, money, and basic geometry, and apply math to real-world situations.

ScienceInstruction emphasizes observation and simple investigations related to plants, animals, matter, light, and seasonal changes.

Social StudiesStudents study communities, geography basics, economic concepts, and responsible citizenship.
