Hey everyone, happy summer!

Guess what? Your very own STEAM teacher has been on an epic adventurethat's truly been out of this world! I've been spending time at Space Camp for Educatorsin Huntsville, Alabama, and it's been an experience that's had me buzzing with excitement. I even wore our Beech Tree Beavers shirtproudly at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center!

What's Space Camp Like?

Imagine days packed with hands-on STEM activitiesthat make science, technology, engineering, and math come alive. We've been doing everything from building and launching rockets to designing our own space habitats. One of the coolest parts was the astronaut training simulations– yes, I got to experience a little bit of what it's like to be an astronaut! It's been incredibly inspiring and has given me so many fantastic ideas.

Bringing Space Back to Our Classrooms

But the best part? All the ways I'm thinking about how we can bring this space and science fun right into our classroomsnext year. Space Camp really showed me how space can be cross-curricular across ALL subjects. Think about it:

  • Science:Obviously, we'll dive deeper into planets, stars, and the solar system.
  • Math:We can explore orbital mechanics, rocket trajectories, and even the distances between celestial bodies.
  • Reading:We can read captivating stories about astronauts and space exploration.
  • Writing:Imagine writing our own space mission logs or creative stories about life on another planet!
  • Art:Designing alien landscapes or new spacecraft!

They do such an amazing job here of connecting everything to space, and it's got me wondering: how can we infuse some of these cosmic concepts into our learning benchmarks for every subject?

I'm bursting with ideas and can't wait to share everything I've learned. Get ready for some truly stellar new adventureswhen school starts!
