Newington Forest Elementary Earns Purple Star Designation

Newington Forest Elementary School has been recognized by the Virginia Department of Education and the Virginia Council on the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children as a Purple Star school , a designation reserved for schools that prove themselves to be military-friendly school and committed to the needs of military-connected students and their families.

To earn a Purple Star designation, schools must designate a staff member as the primary contact for military students and families. Additionally, schools need to show their commitment to supporting military students by offering resources and programs related to academic planning and transitions between schools, districts, and states.
