School Summary

At Cherry Run Elementary School, families and staff members hold high expectations for students and work together to provide a positive and thought-provoking school atmosphere.

Our focus is on each child's academic and social emotional development. Strategies such as individual and small-group instruction, team teaching, and project-based learning are used each day. We are proud of both our students' academic achievement and social emotional development, for example: our grade 6 students participating in seventh-grade math pass advanced in extraordinary numbers on the Standards of Learning Virginia Assessment. This opens access to advanced math to Cherry Run students in future grades. Our students participate in Yoga 4 Classrooms daily supporting FCPS Portrait of a Graduate components with a means to learn to cope and handle challenges with patience and resilience.

Parents take an active role in the school's programs through volunteering and our engaged Parent Teacher Association (PTA). Our families join together at the school for events and students can access enrichment classes provided through the PTA. Our staff collaborates and creates an atmosphere where students achieve through our instructional programs including fine arts, foreign language acquisition of Spanish, physical education, band, strings, and special education support.

Cherry Run provides an atmosphere that stimulates intellectual curiosity, encourages critical thinking and problem solving, in a safe environment built on mutual respect.
