Turn password manager apps on or off for Android

As an administrator, you can help users to quickly sign in to apps and websites in their Android work profiles using password managers. You can choose to let users use either Google Password Manager, a third-party password manager app, or both. 

Before you begin

  • Only users with devices that are running Android 15 or later are affected by the password manager settings.
  • By default, Google Password Manager is turned on, and third-party password managers are turned off. 
  • When you turn on these settings, users can choose their preferred password manager in their Android settings. They can use that password manager to fill in passwords in apps and websites in their work profile.
  • To allow users to use Google Password Manager, first set up advanced mobile management. For details, go to Set up advanced mobile management .
  • To allow users to use a third-party app as a password manager, first add the app to your Web and mobile app list in the Google Admin console. For details, go to Manage mobile apps for your organization .

Allow Google Password Manager

  1. Sign in with an administrator account to the Google Admin console.

    If you aren’t using an administrator account, you can’t access the Admin console.

  2. Go toMenu  Devices > Mobile and endpoints > Settings > Android .

    Requires having the Services and devices administrator privilege.

  3. Click the Apps and data sharingsection.
  4. On the Apps and data sharingpage, click Password Managers.
  5. (Optional) To apply the setting to a department or team, at the side, select an organizational unit. Show me how 
  6. Check the Enable Google Password Manager for work profiles on Android 15+box.
  7. Click Save.Or, you might click Overridefor an organizational unit  .

    To later restore the inherited value, click Inherit(or Unset for a group).

Changes can take up to 24 hours but typically happen more quickly.  Learn more

Allow a third-party app to act as password manager

  1. Sign in with an administrator account to the Google Admin console.

    If you aren’t using an administrator account, you can’t access the Admin console.

  2. Go to Menu  Apps > Web and mobile apps .

    Requires having the Mobile Device Management administrator privilege.

  3. Click the app that you want to act as password manager.
    Tip:To show only the apps that are turned on for a specific organizational unit or group, click Add a filter.
  4. Click Settings.
  5. (Optional) To apply the setting only to some users, at the side, select an organizational unit(often used for departments) or configuration  group(advanced). Show me how

  6. Turn on Password manager for Android 15+
  7. Click Save.Or, you might click Overridefor an organizational unit  .
