How to choose between a classic Gem & a Gem from Google Labs

You can decide between a classic Gem or a Gem from Google Labs based on your goals.

Classic Gems

If you want a repeatable chat with an expert on a specific topic, create a classic Gem. Similar to Gemini, classic Gems access tools and maintain context from past chats, but they follow your custom instructions and any knowledge you provide.

Example:Create a tutor Gem anchored on course materials to act as an expert on a specific subject.

Gems from Google Labs

If you want to create an interactive mini-app for a custom workflow, create a Gem from Google Labs. These Gems allow you to build light app interfaces and use multiple AI models, including image, video, music, and text models, to complete tasks.

Example:Create a Gem from Google Labsthat takes lecture notes you upload and generates a custom study guide with images, a short podcast, or any other format you learn best with in one click.
