4c Simon Bolivar stamp

This Champion of Liberty Issue honors Simon Bolivar, a military and political leader. He played an important role in many Latin and South American countries’ ability to gain independence from Spain . He later went on to claim dictatorial power over “Gran Colombia,” a federation of what is present day Colombia , Ecuador , Panama and Venezuela . He died of tuberculosis in 1830. The stamp depicts a medallion with Bolivar’s portrait.
