Blue Women's Ankle Boots

Unknown 1860 - 1880

Kunstgewerbemuseum, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin
Berlin, Germany

The development of aniline dyes allowed leather to be dyed in strong tones, such as that of these radiant blue leather ankle boots . Their toe is pointed and flat. The cording on the instep is achieved with 13 pairs of eyelets overstitched by hand with green silk . A braid of blue silk is used as a tie. The heel, set far to the rear, is slightly recessed and also covered with blue leather. The insole is also leather, the lining from white glove leather and the outer sole brown leather.
