La pimienta de Carolina (Calycanthus floridus L., Calycanthaceae) es un arbusto caducifolio hasta de 4 m, nativo de los sotobosques del este de Estados Unidos , desde Virginia a Florida. Las hojas son enteras, de un verde obscuro y hasta de 15 cm; cuando se aplastan emiten un agradable olor a alcanfor. La floración se da a principios del verano.
