The designation of coffin chair refers to the piece of furniture to deposit and transport the dead. From the 17th century, this item presents typical Portuguese decorations, such as the carved wood twists, the wicker pillow, and the pieces on top of the four corners.
As this furniture ran out of use, it received an intervention in the 19th century aiming to adapt it into a convent chair ; similar to what was made to identical furniture, while maintaining the metalwork from the original purpose, and removing only one of the sides.
