Louis Agassiz Medallion

Bronze medallion with the effigy of Louis Agassiz (1807-1873), Swiss geologist and paleontologist. In 1846, he moved to Boston , Massachusetts, in the United States . He founded, in 1859, the Museum of Comparative Zoology (MCZ), one of the museums of Harvard University, and was its director until his death. In 1865, he came to Brazil , heading the Thayer Expedition that passed through Rio de Janeiro , Minas Gerais and states in the Northeast and the Amazon.
