The bed for the Queen's Bedchamber was made specially for the room by Sené and Laurent under the direction of Hauré in 1787. Although made for Marie-Antoinette herself, she never actually used it. In 1805, the decision was made to give it to Empress Josephine. For this occasion the wooden panels were adorned with satin broché woven by Gaudin, finished by Savourin and acquired by the royal furniture depository in 1790.
