The bronze monument was built to commemorate the death centenary of Mestre Valentim. Architect, engraver, landscape architect and sculptor, Mestre Valentim da Fonseca e Silva was undoubtedly the greatest artist of Rio de Janeiro and the first colonial to merge pieces in bronze and iron.
