Miniature portrait of Karl XI, King of Sweden

Erik Utterhielm c. 1690

The Royal Armoury, Sweden
Stockholm, Sweden

The very small painting on an oval piece of copper without frame, shows a half length portrait of the King dressed in a cuirass and an ermine trimmed purple cloak, white scarf and a brooch with a big bluish black stone. On his head a brown short cut full-bottomed wig. The background is granular in bluish green. The painting is not signed, but very typical of Erik Utterhielm.
