Pioneer City

Kuvataide 1962

Finnish Museum of Games
Tampere, Finland

Like many other game maps , the map printed on the game board for Pioneer City is irrelevant in terms of the game’s mechanics. It is designed to help the players set the stage for the events in the game. They are not merely moving their pawns from one square to another; instead, they are trekking across Colorado towards the Mountains of Gold. The illustrations give depth to the sense of adventure: the map is not so much about moving in North America as it is about having an archetypal “Wild West adventure”.
