Prophet Elijah in the Desert

The icon of Prophet Elijah was tranferred from the Monastery's Great Treasury to the Laboratory for the conservation and restoration of icons of the Monastery in 2009. It was conserved by I. Sotiriou. Based on the exquisite technique of the painting, as well as its stylistic features, it is attributed to the Cretan cycle. It could even be a work of the famous Cretan painter Angelos.
